I was referred to STUBHUB, cali based company for event tickets from an event center when they sold out of tickets ( was looking for non standing tickets/ball game). I purchased them as a surprise gift for visitors ...then Covid happened. At the time there was a full refund policy, which I have in writing. They now changed their policy to No refunds. My refund request was made before the change and acknowledged by them by email. No refund received to date. Called them today to be offered a coupon, no thx and it was obvious that they were trying to get me to relinquish my previously requested refund under their former policy. Was told the refund was never processed and he had no explanation.
Regardless, Fla Law requires them to provide a Full Refund on purchase, which I gently told him. After saying he was aware, he said he would refer my refund request to another dept... that he could not provide an email for, no phone number, no reference number and no person and no time frame. UGH!
So, anyone else running into Covid related Refunds for event cancellations and having a hard time getting whats owed? Filing a BBB complaint, cc dispute and notifying event center. Theres so many other things to worry about but its a lot of money, especially now. Very disappointed that Im having to spend my time and energy on this while also trying to recover.

Stubhub told me they were still waiting to hear from the event people before they could process a refund. They said to call back the next day. I did, and the refund was processed and on my credit card the next day

Interesting story about Stubhub. We had to cancel MLB opening weekend in Miami due to the postponement of the baseball season. We have tickets through SH for 2 games. We had read the same earlier policy - refund or credit if an event is cancelled. Well, since MLB can't decide what they're going to do yet, our games are currently not cancelled yet. And we also saw the note from SH saying they've changed their policy since we bought the tickets.

I'd like to know more about the law in Florida. Is it for Floridians (which I'm not) or events in Florida, which our event was? Thanks for the info here.

Good for You!
My event was cancelled per them (and local news) when they reached out to offer the refund. (the first email said to await update for arena, then, they clearly got the cancellation update and offered the refund). Then they allegedly processed it, but I never got it. Now, they can't figure out why not refunded, so referred to another Unk dept.
fingers crossed

File the cc dispute today. Lawsuits are already being filed against StubHub over their new voucher only policy, maybe you’ll see $2 down the road but for today your only avenue to get money back from StubHub is your cc company.

I googled it as someone mentioned it. I do not recall but believe its for the fla events, not resident only. Id follow up to be sure. Good Luck! Ill update with my success (being positive)

That will be one huge class action suit. According to a stubhub email 70 percent of people took coupon value instead of a refund. Thats an awful lot of people that will be quite angry if they go out of business as a result of this entire policy changing debacle they created. meanwhile I wait with cc dispute and BBB complaint as well.

Thanks for reminding me I have tickets for a rescheduled show at my sons college arts center. They will give me a refund since I don’t want to wait a year to see the show. I just need to get busy and request it.

If the original show was postponed/rescheduled, and not cancelled, I'm not sure if they'll give you a refund or not. Your option at that point might be to resell them to someone else.

The exact same thing happened to us. Would it happen to be a college in Florida?

No, Kentucky 😁

one of their options was to donate the money to their arts program. I decided against that because we already pay enough for him to go to school there. The show was rescheduled for a year from the original date and I was afraid to assume we would be free that day. If all goes well my son will be away doing his senior internship

Our son was supposed to do a show last month at a college in Florida. He's a musical theater major at a college there, but another school cast him to be in their spring break production. We were literally sitting on the plane, flying out from California when he texted and said the show was being postponed. A few future dates were being tossed around, but they seem to have settled on doing it next March over spring break. My son will be doing his senior showcase in New York that week. There's no way he will miss that. We're obviously not going to fly back to Florida to see a show that he's no longer in. The director said she knows she will have to recast several roles, but she has a year to do it. As soon as they formally announce the new dates, I will be requesting a refund for the tickets we bought.

UPDATE: no call, email or text to my call or written request, but bank just notified me of the Full Refund, which Im thankful for.
will update other avenues I used, this date. good Luck All!

Re: credit card disputes.

BBB is pointless. Companies pay to belong, or they don't. Companies that don't belong don't care that customers complain to the organization.

StubHub executive contacts https://www.elliott.org/company-contacts/stubhub/ Be sure to read the Note at the bottom of the page first. Advice on how to complain https://www.elliott.org/answers/how-to-fix-your-own-consumer-problem/

Important to note, a chargeback might not be the end of the transaction. The business can still come after the consumer for payment. Unlikely here, where the event is cancelled, but generally good information to keep in mind.

It Was a chargeback.. saga continues. Called bank who said they took money back from Stubhub and since event canceled, no service so should not be an issue. Upon my further questioning.. I asked Why they didn’t request my proof of Asking for refund and the email Confirming my request from SH, dated March .. prior to policy change ( and fla law issue)
I’m now sending that to bank. Also called Stubhub today, was told again no idea why not processed but flagged ... he thinks for refund ... we shall see. I’m not letting go of bank dispute until I see it’s confirmed payment back.

So many people out of money by various vendors, disgraceful!

Our NBA game for March 25 in Orlando was postponed (cancelled?) but Stubhub claims that until the NBA officially cancels the season they cannot refund cash. They say that if we are given tickets for a future game we can sell them. We are from Canada and were going to see the game during our Disney trip. I think I am going to try the cc dispute with my bank and see what happens. Needless to say we will never buy from them again.

Imho...
Google...Fla law ( 1 of only 15 states) requires full refund for Cancelled event
Go on event site.. if u see canceled, take screen shot. Then re contact SH and Request refund again. I’d also do cc dispute at that time.
SH policy at time of ur purchase, was full refund guarantee for cancelled events. And fla law covers u IF canceled. Policy change ( and I Question legality) was After ur purchase.

If it’s postponed, ur likely stuck with tix, but you can sell to recoup money. Likely cancelled. Google any n everything n screenshots n give that as well.

Best of luck!
Let us know. I sent my pkg to cc toda.

I'm going to give the other side of this for a minute. My sister is the ticketing manager for a major venue in our state that is a non-profit. They don't hold all the money that they take in for a performance until the performance happens. They use it to pay salaries, the utilities, etc. She is in the process of refunding customers now for things they aren't going to be able to reschedule, but she has to wait each day to get an email from the finance department to let her know how many refunds she can do that day based on how much money is in the pot.

Right now, she is refunding in the order of the performances. Some of these delays may be because the venue just doesn't have the money at this moment to give the refunds.

this company payout platform is worth multi millions, they used to make refunds, then collet that money back from the venues. due to delays, they decided to change their entire Policy to customers ...no longer offering refunds, instead a credit, albeit above the original value. Many people are waiting for refunds both mandated by law (fla is one of those states) and because they filed Before the company changed the policy mid covid outcome.
The courts will likely decide if any company can decide, without direct alert to customers, policy was changing completely (why most people used them, full guarantee of refund for cancellations).
, they allegedly let go of 2/3 their staff, changed to no refunds and give no definite answers to following state law or issuing refunds to those that files Before the alleged change.
Im not too sympathetic. I understand delays but 4 weeks, not good service nor would I recommend. They could easily have sent follow up emails to customers.
I hope they are doing the righty thing and as I was told today, refund checks are going out by weeks end or into next week. So, we all sit and wait.
This is not a non profit. My thoughts on that may differ.
