Dollar Tree always has journals, photo albums, notebooks etc. for $1, but I never like the covers. I'd buy the books if I could make a homemade cover out of fabric or paper, but I don't know how to do it well.

I once attempted to cover an album with fabric, but the album was fastened with a shoelace and I couldn't figure how to restring it once the fabric was on the covers. :confused3

I'm looking for spiral bound books, so if you have any tips for making my own covers PLEASE SHARE them!

Thanks!

I bought the spiral autograph books at the dollar tree and took the spiral binding off (just unthreaded it)(hope that makes sense) and then spray painted the front and back covers. After they were dry I re-threaded the spiral binding and then decorated with what I wanted on the front. (Hope this makes sense!!)

You make perfect sense. I just know how difficult it would be to take the sprial out and rethread it.

I used the spiral bound and left the spiral in. Used scrapbook papers to cover the outside and inside covers. Add "border pieces", matted squares with sayings or poems, cutouts, etc. Great way to use up odds and ends.

I bought two autograph books from Dollar Tree. I'm trying to come up with ideas to make at least one of them special for my friend's DD, my DD insists she is getting a Disney one in WDW.

Anyway, I'm trying to think of ideas to dress up the pages and finish the cover in a Disney theme. Anyone want to share ideas or pictures of theirs?

I covered the front cover of my Circle Journal with fabric, I removed the spiral binding and put fabric on it up to where the holes are to put the binding. I put decopage glue all over the book cover and then I placed the fabric on top. I put the ends over to the back side and attached them with more Mod Pode. I cut a piece of cardstock to the same size as the inside of the book and glued that oved the fabric ends to cover the ends.

I am sending my journal to the other ladies in my group with the rings you can open up. When I get my book back I will put ribbon in for the binding.

Handsome work GrayFal. You've given me some ideas, like using the Mickey icons - simple enough. I must go shopping for Disney papers, stickers, etc! Oh, and I like the tag idea. I could use it to add the girls' names or the dates of our trip.

ReAnSt, Your link to Webshots wouldn't open. Is it the book in your sig?

There's so much to learn from all of the scrappers here and the websites that have been mentioned on this board.
