Cove Bar

Then we'd likely be walking by looking at the few people who managed to get them enjoy their lobster nachos and specialty drinks while debating which other place to eat.

Same # of people would be served....

Not likely. BB no longer takes standbys on many days and that means when there are empty tables there is no one to fill them. Plus, I don't assume I'd get one of the reservations when everyone starts vying for them.

Go early for lunch.
We hit it about 11:15, have a drink and then order lunch. I have never waited more than about 10 minutes for a table doing this.
And you've got to get the Lobster Nacho's at least once!

Cove Bar + Mickey's Funwheel cocktail + lobster nachos = perfect day at DCA.

FWIW when we tried to do CB at opening the wait for shade was 45 mins but if we were willing to sit in the sun we could be seated immediately. It was surprisingly hot that day in Nov, so hot that barely anybody was taking them up on sun seating and we sure weren't about to fry out there. BUT if you're just looking to try a new cocktail it might work.

I find the secret menu drinks to be STRONG too. I can definitely feel it after just one. I mean, they're all a version of Long Island Iced Teas so it makes sense.

Very true. I've never had more than one because you definitely feel it. I wouldn't dare try the Zombie.
