We are OKW DVC owners. We are considering a couples trip in mid May 2011. We just want somewhere warm with a pool and cocktails. No parks on this trip. We first thought about going to Cancun. I just thought about going to WDW or Vero Beach. Any thoughts? I have stayed at OKW and AKV-Kidani.

Do you have AP's? I mean the temptation could be pretty strong to just hit a park.

If you will have a car I would split Vero with SSR. Enjoy the beach 1st then go to SSR and enjoy DTD, the pools, the food, and the spa. I think SSR has some of the nicest pools, the nicest views and tonz of rest. including desserts in DTD.

Did this one summer and loved it. We stayed at OKW 1 BR, enjoyed the quiet pool, relaxed, enjoyed our balcony. Best part was we had a variety of restaurants that we could choose to eat at if we wanted. With DTD you even have the movie theater or Cirque du Soleil or if you have annual passes just go see the Lion King, Beauty & the Beast or any other show.

That's what is so great about DVC!!

For the past two Mays, my DH and I have gone to Vero Beach for a few days after spending a week in WDW. We absolutely loved it! Those days have been so relaxing...sleeping late, no rushing around trying to get to a park for rope drop, relaxing on the beach.

Due to having to make up snow days, we decided not to go this year. :sad1: I'm going to miss it!

If you want a relaxing vacation (with no driving, no parks) I would say SSR
would be the best. With DTD near and its many pools you would have a great time!

I think this is a grand idea. We love our non-park trips. Don't forget the "Monorail Crawl"!:thumbsup2

My wife and I talked about this on our last trip in Jan. We own SSR and OKW and we thought OKW would be a perfect resort only stay, tropical, roomy, laid back and not too heavy on disney theme. DTD is a short boat or bus ride away.We are currently watching for a OKW add on to match our uy, needing more points for this reason.

I think kidani would be a great non park dvc to stay at. You can watch the animals, at night sit at the fire in the savanah, talk to the people from africa and do some of the african activities.
You can stil lgo to other resorts to enjoy their restaraunts during this trip also.

All of our trips to WDW in recent years have been couples trips (kids are grown) of 3-4 nights but we usually spend 1 day at the parks. Our favorite things to do are visit the resorts; they are as impressive as the parks.

I'd recommend AKV or Kidani but if you've already stayed there; why not try VWL since you don't need to be close to a park. We love OKW and is just a nice boat ride from DTD. BVW is nice since there's activity on the Boardwalk.

Or, VB would be a nice relaxing trip. The Green Cabin Room, overlooking the ocean, is great for cocktails and light food. We'll be spending quite a bit of time there in November. :woohoo:

We just got back from our first WDW vacation without the kids and had a great time without visiting any of the parks.:) We were lucky with the weather and so were able to make lots of use of the quiet resort pool. We also did the ride along NASCAR experience with the Richard Petty Driving school that was a lot of fun. We also got to explore some of the other resorts as we had the DDP so went there for various meals (CS and TS). For this trip we stayed at SSR and it was nice to be able to walk to DTD. However we feel that BCV or Boardwalk would be a much better option for future trips as a couple as the nightlife at Jelly Rolls and the Atlantic Dance Hall as well as the entertaining busker style acts on the boardwalk are within walking distance.

DH and I are now empty nesters and go to WDW at least twice a year. We rent a car so we do a variety of different things. We usually go to the parks once or twice if something special is going on ...Food and Wine is a favorite of ours. We love the town of Winter Park and enjoy shopping (only place DH will shop) and having lunch at one of their unique restaurants. Have to go to Celebration to see how it's growing (usually have lunch or dinner there). We enjoy Spring training (I'm not a BB fan but still enjoy going) and the Arnold Palmer Invitational golf tournament..all the golf greats are there for Arnie.

My DW and I wil be doing a "no-kids" trip in May also. We will stay at OKW and explore from there. We have been looking for a house in the area and will probably continue that search -- I still see a few park hours in the 4 days, though. Need to hear the music on Main St.

We just returned from a no park trip to BCV. Lots of pool/hot tub time and adult beverages. We actually found it to be very relaxing and we didn't miss
the parks this trip. We did take a drive over to WL taking the boat over
to CR followed by Monorail ride around Seven Seas lagoon then off to Epcot. We were able to see the flowers planted on the banks of the Epot lagoons.:goodvibes

I absolutely cannot wait for our "NON PARK" vacation at Old Key West this Saturday! It's just my husband and myself and have NEVER done this kind of a trip at Disney World before. The more I read on these boards about spring break crowds and what not, the more excited I am to just RELAX at the pools with a nice cold drink in my hand! 10 nights just doing whatever we feel like at the time and we've bought tickets to an Atlanta Braves game on Monday night- that's somthing new and different for us!

DH and I do this type of trip all the time. We have stretched a non-expiring 10-day hopper ticket into 4 trips. I can't believe after 3 trips we still have three days left for our trip in May. We have been doing a lot of other really fun things. We've done a couple tours that don't require park tickets, like Backstage Magic. That was an awesome tour. We spend a lot of time around the pool with cocktails. This coming May we are running in the Expedition Everest 5K. We were staying at OKW for this trip and then changed our minds and will be staying at Kidani Village for the first time. Staying at BCV is pretty nice for SAB and the Boardwalk area. We do that a lot too. One trip we stayed for a week at SSR with only one park day. It was great for doing DD things. Really it doesn't matter so much where you stay when you aren't going into the parks. Since you have all the time in the world to get from place to place, you can use the journey at part of the adventure.

PS - If you don't have a reservation for May, I would get to it. Things are pretty booked up. I had to waitlist a couple days when we changed to Kidani a couple months ago.

Question for all of you have taken a "couples" trip - what do you think is the best DVC resort for people without kids? I guess that could mean a lot of kids - resort with the least kids, resort with the quietest pools, resort with the most unique bar, resort closest to great restaurants... I'd love to hear!

We went last September - boyfriend loved golfing, restaurants, and bars, but NOT the parks. We recently looked into renting points to get a feel for the DVC experience, and I'm thinking he can golf and I can pop into some parks on our next visit.

Well, I haven't stayed at BLT or AKV yet. We will be trying AKV in May. But I have to say that we really like BCV or BWV the most for an adult only trip. The location of both is great. When we do go to the parks, we find that we spend a lot of time at the WS in EPCOT. We also like Jellyrolls and the Boardwalk area in the evening. It is great having so many dinner and lounge choices so close. We really like SAB. So we lean towards BCV.
