I've haven't been on this section of the DIS board in some time as we went to WDW this summer instead of USO. I love Disney, but Universal spoiled me! All we kept saying during our trip was "wish we were at Universal". I have to go in the summer due to DD being in high school and not taking time off from school. I found Disney just too hard to take with the crowds this time around. No FOTL! Long waits for the busses in the hot afternoon sun. We really much preferred the more laid back atmosphere of USO. That being said, I think we're going to plan our next vacation for Universal.

My DD will be starting college this time next year, so we may have more options as far as when we can go. I was wondering what January is like at the parks? I know it will be cooler and probably much less crowded than in the summer months. But how cool will it be? Can anyone give me a general idea of what the weather is like then. I'd probably go in the beginning to middle of the month. Less crowds then? Do things tend to be closed for rehab during those months? I don't want to miss out on too much if I go then.

Also, what's going on with the planned Harry Potter section? I haven't been keeping up on that. What is the scheduled opening date as of now? Thanks!

January is a great time to go and the weather is great. The parks close at 6pm during that time due to the low crowds. Harry Potter isn't supposed to be finished until mid 2010 but the construction is moving along well. The temps are all over the place in January. It could in the mid 80's one day and then in the 40's the next so you will have to pack accordingly.

You're from NY, so it will be a cakewalk for you in January. All the FL locals will be bundled up, as 50-60 degrees is the normal high. Lows are in the 40s, usually.

After New Year's, the parks are pretty empty. Ripsaw Falls is usually down for rehab at this time. As far as Harry Potter: :confused3 Construction will continue and progress will be made, but nothing will be open then.

Thanks! Yes, 50s and 60s sounds GREAT for January. DH will probably disagree. He loves the heat. Yes, that does mean more packing though, which I hadn't though about - long pants and sweatshirts, plus shorts just in case. I guess it's too chilly to swim?
