Are they even still letting us buy OTU points?

If I have points of my own available to use, can I still buy OTU pts? (I want to bank some of my points, but can't yet)

I may make changes to my reservations (because who knows what's changing these days)....
If I modify a reservation made with both banked points and OTU points, which will they kick back as available first if my modification uses less points?

Can I set up a waitlist to replace a reservation that was made with OTU points?

Thanks.

Yes, you can buy them. It doesn’t matter if you have other points.

Once in a reservation you can only modify by calling MS...

Yes, you can set up a waitlist to replace a reservation using those.

Yes you can, I just bought some today. You can even replace an existing reservation's points with OTU points

Is this a new policy? from the OTU points FAQ on the member website it says (in part)

"The purchase just needs to occur at the time you're making the reservation that requires them."

That would seem to mean you could not buy them to replace existing reservation points, and you could not buy them if you had other points available since if you had other points available the OTU points would not be "required".

Previously members have posted you could make a "dummy" reservation that required you to purchase OTU points and then cancel that reservation and you would then have the OTU points to use as you wished, including using them to replace points in an existing reservation.
Since that effectively gets around the rule as quoted above, maybe DVC changed the rule, but did not update the FAQ.

@dismedvc when I purchased OTU points to replace existing points on a reservation, I still had regular points available on my contracts, so that definitely isn't the case.

The person was taking about OTU points already purchased, not new ones.

No rule changes. If you have a current reservation made 7 months or less and want them, MS will make the dummy reservation, let purchase., cancel and then reallocate all in one call!

@Sandisw It sounded to me like these were both new purchases (or planed new purchases) of OTU points, and @xWilliam did not mention having to make a "dummy" reservation, but I might be incorrect.

@dismedvc I suppose you could use a dummy reservation, but I had planned to buy OTU due to being a few points short for my reservation next year at the 11 month mark (due to the 50% borrow restriction), so I swapped out points this year with one time use points.

I have bought them there times. Each time, the CM put me on hold afte taking my CC, and then we completed the reservation.

The first time was to be in a new one

the second time was to move them into a reservation I had so I could free up and move my points.

After buying, she said she had to do a few things first but would get them in the right place. Again, because it was being done at the same time, it worked. Modifications would be considered putting them into a reservation.

The last time was for a waitlist, and then she did the dummy and cancel, so maybe that is when it happened..

From my understanding, one could always buy as long as they were going into a reservation at the time of purchase, What you can’t do is just purchase ahead of time without having a specific place to go
