Couple of kids meals questions

They all say they come with either a water or a lowfat milk. Are they able to get a soda (or chocolate milk) or are they limited to those two items? My daughter would likely pick the milk over soda anyway, but just want to know if it's an option.

Also, she has lost 6 baby teeth right in front all at once (of course) and has a REALLY hard time chewing carrots. I'm assuming that's the veggies they give with the kids meals? Would they sub more fruit or are we stuck with lots of carrots our whole trip?

It depends on the location, they don't all have everything. If they have a soda machine behind the counter, you can ask for a kid's soda or some actually come with a juice box. Not sure about chocolate milk, if they have it on the menu you could ask, but I think it costs more than regular milk, so not sure every CS would sub for it. If the meal comes with apples and carrots you can ask for double apples. A lot of them come with a Danimals smoothie as an option and I know at least Coke Corner will sub a bag of chips. At Boardwalk Pizza and Pasta you choose 2 sides out of the case, it says pick one from each shelf, but they allowed double apple slices. They didn't have a kids cup for a soda from the self-serve machine, though, so had to get a juice box.

Thank you!

Flo's has a fruit cup. It's not the same as the adult fruit cup, It's got grapes and melon and is smaller. Is your child even going to eat the sides? I'd either get something like the apples and carrots and save them for later, or get either an adult entree a la carte, like just the grilled cheese, no soup at Jolly Holiday or just a side of mac and cheese instead of the whole meal at Flo's. Then bring your own box of juice or Yoohoo as the drink or get a cup of water. I'm looking at Disney's menus on their site and they all have the side and drink choices listed, you can see which ones have which choices pretty easily.

Those are good ideas. Hadn't thought of that. A side might be a way better option for her. I'm underwhelmed by the kid's offerings. I wish they'd do smaller portions of adult stuff. She'd probably love a mini breadbowl with clam chowder but there's no way she'd eat an adult size.

Yea, and it's easy to end up having lunch and dinner at a place that has the same kids option but vastly different adult menus and your kid eats mac and cheese twice a day. The best kids meals are hamburgers and hot dogs because they match the adult menus, but I don't want to be stuck eating burgers every day. Look at Boardwalk Pizza, the meatball sandwich is slightly elevated for a kids meal. And at Pizza Port you can split adult pasta and supplement with something like garlic bread or a side salad. You could always ask for the clam chowder and bread separate at Pacific Wharf, then cut the loaf and share the chowder.

Ok good. Even the apple slices are pushing it for us. Maybe we'll have to skip Flo's and the places that do that as their sides. Or maybe I'll just split my meals with her.

Overall I'm not a huge fan of the kid's meals at the parks. I think they do a great job of making them on the healthier side though. If they have soda it will be an option. They keep it off the menu so that it is at parent discretion instead of an obvious choice for kids. Most places offer juice, and we have gotten my oldest chocolate milk before.

I would suggest you bring in some extra snacks that she can eat for lunch, etc. You will save money and not waste food that she can't/won't eat. Last visit my husband and I bought most of our lunches, but the kids ate food we brought them from home (Cheese sticks, crackers, apple sauce, etc.). Then we bought them dinner. This helped a lot since a lot of the choices are the same and I don't want them eating mac & cheese twice a day for a week. LOL! As far as the bread bowl, you can order the bowl with the soup on the side. The bowl of soup isn't that large, so she could probably eat it all. Then she could eat some of the bread and save the rest for later since the soup was not inside.

When my kiddo was younger, we would split adult meals all the time. Now, he eats his and then half of mine lol. I like to pick up a kids meal every now and then, it's not pricey and I like the apples, carrots and little bottle of water.

You can get chocolate milk too. Flo's isn't that far from the fruit stand (fruit/veggies/drinks). Or even the Fishermans Wharf area. You can easily get the bread bowl or Mickey Check meals

Yeah exactly. Just as much as I don't wanna eat burgers every day she's not going to want mac n cheese or turkey every day. I wanted to try boardwalk pizza for their salad so I'll try that there, thanks!

Yeah I'm sure they've felt some pressure to have healthy stuff (made pretty evident by their 'mickey check' meals) and I have zero problem with that...except when it's the same 3 meals over and over haha!

I wouldn't have thought of that with the bread bowl. That might be a really good option for her! Thanks!

I was thinking even if we do start carrot collecting, someone will eat it as a snack in a line or something. They travel well.

At her age I totally would've loved the mickey check meals, they're kinda fun. I'll bet she gets a couple of them (but those pesky carrots show up there too haha).
