Couple of CP questions

I've applied and had my phone interview for the fall semester.

I have a couple of questions though, I'm a non-traditional student. I graduated high school in 1997, went to the local community college, working two jobs, editor on the student newspaper and a full load of classes. I got burned out and when I graduated in 2000, I took a semester off. Well that semester turned into 9 years (as these things generally do).

Last spring (09) I came back to school, as a Hospitality Management major. I was part time until this semester. I was laid off in October so I decided to go full time.

So, the point of all this, being a 30-something (I'll be 31 this month), will I be totally out of place in the program and the apartments? I'm not a party all the time kind of person. I'm so far past that, I'm trying to get experience and learn. This is the biggest worry for me doing the program.

Can someone please set my mind at ease that someone who is a bit of a fuddy duddy in her personal life won't be totally out of place.

Well I have never done the program but I have heard that there are alot of people who are non traditional age. I have heard that there are people all the way up into their 60's doing the program. Also I know that a ton of people (myself included) that are over 21 are not big partiers and are planning on having a different kind of fun. Not saying I don't enjoy a drink now and then but no raves or anything. And from what I heard Patterson is the quietest complex so that may be more up your alley. I know that is where I want to stay! :) I hope I helped put your mind at ease a little!

Yeah, there were plenty of older and non-traditional students on my CP. Disney only requires you to be enrolled somewhere. So there is always a chance of 60-year-olds doing the program, who might be taking a random elective course at their local community college.

I'll admit, it was always a little awkward seeing 40-something's around and knowing they were being housed with college-aged kids. 31 is barely out of your 20s, though, to be honest, and I think by the time we are in college, we should all be mature enough to handle potentially living with someone older. And the age gap is a lot smaller, metaphorically speaking, at this age.

And you know you will be living with students who are, at the youngest, 21, so there's even more of a closeness there. I think you will be FINE! Enjoy! :)

Thanks, that helps. Its good to know I won't be the old lady. It's not often that someone actually thinks I'm my age, I look very young (I'm still waiting for that "You'll appreciate it later" thing to happen) so I don't look out of place. Most of my classmates don't believe me when I tell them my age.

You'll fit in. I don't think anyone is going to really care much about age once we get there. I doubt there will be too many "wild" groups like you would see in college.

Edit: I meant to say once everyone who is going gets there. Trying not to jinx myself lol.

Also, if you don't want to live in the cp housing you can request to live off-site.

I'm not a partier either, so if you don't mind hanging out with a 19 year old (well, 20 a month into the program), I'd be totally cool hanging out with you - I'm better friends with people your age and older than I am with people my own age - probably because I'm not into the party scene that so many people are at this age.

i saw a handful of mom-aged women on the CP, especially when I was in the laundry rooms, haha. I heard that Disney tries to house the more non-traditional aged CP's together, like at least the 40+'s ... since you're only 31, i'm not sure where you would be placed. You're still young and so they might just place you with the 21+ participants. I would give them a call though and you can find out exactly :)

Thanks everyone. I figured they'd house the "old" people together but I wasn't positive.

I know I'll be dealing with a lot on top of the CP - in order to do this I have to take classes to get my financial aid or else I can't pay the bills... something somewhat important.

I'm also planning a wedding for next May. I'm very lucky that I have the most supportive and understanding fiance ever.

Well now that I'm officially accepted, I better start thinking of where I'd like to live. I'm so excited and should really be studying for my Hospitality midterm that's tonight

I'm not really a partier either. I plan on having other kinds of fun, like playing in the parks, shopping, and having movie/game nights! I'm sure you won't be out of place; I know a couple non-traditional college students who do the CP.

You might want to think about living off-site! :)

There no no chance I can afford to live offsite considering what Disney pays :D My fiance and I own a condo so there are real life bills that will still need to be paid while I'm up there
