I'm mid twenties and taking my Mom to Disney in September. We're doing 5 nights and the dining plan- 1s, 1qs, 1ts.

Couple questions:

1. The two that appeal to us most are Boma and Jiko- we love visiting the AKL and the food looks great and unique. We've done Boma before. Would it be too redundant to do both on this trip? We want to do one signature restaurant, so I also considered Artist's Point and Cali. Grill - but would mostly considering swapping in CG. Thoughts?

2. We need to choose two Epcot area non signature restaurants for two nights. I want to do something FUN and Disney ish- so I was thinking Biergarten and/or Akershus. Would Akershus not be fun for two adult women? I've also considered Teppen Ado (ruled out because we can do that at home), Coral Reef (ruled out because we weren't crazy about it last time), and Kouzzina (ruled out because it wasn't 'disney' enough). When I say ruled out, I mean MOSTLY ruled out :) Thoughts on what ones to pick?

Thanks in advance! :)

Personally, I would not do two restaurants at AKL unless I was staying there...it is just too out of the way

I can't comment on your first question, since I haven't eaten at both Boma and Jiko. For your second question, eating in the Epcot area, I would definitely recommend Rose and Crown or Via Napoli. We just ate at both these places this week and loved them both. We ate twice at Rose and Crown.
I'd love to go with my mom to either. After dinner you can sample some wine in the countries or get some limoncello in Italy :)

Great tip about AKL. I need to consider that. last time we were there- we had a car so it was easy! this time we will not.

Niki- I'll look into those -thanks! :) We considered Rose and Crown but were scared we would count on sitting outside during illuminations and end up disappointed if not. We ate there about 10 years ago and sat outside during it- so our expectations might be too high! Should also mention- my Mom (a fit 49 year old!!) had a heart attack two years ago so we have to look at menus a bit to make sure it's the right kind of food. I will look at these menus :)

ps. I love the sampling wine idea! :)

Jiko is really good. However, if you only want to do 1 signature with your mom, might I suggest combining your first question with your second question and go with Flying Fish at the Boardwalk? The Boardwalk is really nice to walk around at night, is a short walk or boat ride from the International Gateway in the WS and FF is one of our favorite signature restaurants (it's tied up there with Citricos, Jiko is third on our list).

I also don't think you and your mom would feel out of place at all at Akershus. My girlfriend and I think that the princesses almost play it up more with those who are there without kids (that is based on our experience, reviews I have read and observations while in the restaurant). We also really enjoyed Biergarten (we ate there on NYE a couple of years ago). The only problem with Biergarten is that your experience may be determined by who you eat with. My DGF and I sat with a couple in their early 40's and a family of 4. The 2 couples had a great time talking and drinking and it was a great time, however, we could tell that the family of 4 was miserable. If we were stuck with just that family of 4, there is no way we would have enjoyed the meal as much as we did.

So, to sum it all up, based on your questions, I would go with Boma over Jiko and suggest Akershus and Flying Fish as your EC area restaurants. :thumbsup2

That's awesome- thank you! :) So that's good to know- that you lean more towards Akershus over Biergarten. Do you know which has the better food of the two?

Let me look at Flying Fish. I guess I never gave it a thought since I'm from CT where we have so much seafood and it isn't that 'disney ish' - but let me look over the menu! :) We're going to do Jellyrolls that night I think so that would work out nice.

I think Akershus would be fun to do as adults also-an interesting environment and food! We love Boma, but have not done Jiko-as someone else stated-transport my be a pain as far out as it is. As far as Epcot area restaurants-we really enjoyed dinner at Cape May Cafe and Tutto Italia. For a different type of food and experience, we also like Marrakesh (my mom and daughter really enjoyed the food, belly dancer, and music.) We did not care for our food at Coral Reef. Everyone will have differing opinions and likes. Something new we are trying on our trip in Sept. is the afternoon tea at the Garden View tea room-that might be fun with just you and your mom. Have fun!

i took my mom in march and we had:

breakfasts:
kona--- she LOVED wants to go back every day, lol
hollywood and vine--- too loud for her

lunches:
chefs de france--- LOVED
mama melrose--- liked a lot, nice atmosphere, good service and food
sanaa--- yuck for both of us... i got sick.

dinners:
yachtsman--- her #1 FAVORITE
cali grill--- LOVED, very impressed
ohana--- was AMAZED by the amount of food and just had a great time!

next time when she goes (for the wedding) she wants (dxddp):

rose and crown
via napoli
tutto italia
yachtsman
citricos
chefs de france
ohana
california grill
and a few kona breakfasts :)

sooooooo that's a mom's point of view, lol.

i would go with jiko, and would only go to akl once unless staying there!

That's awesome- thank you! :) So that's good to know- that you lean more towards Akershus over Biergarten. Do you know which has the better food of the two?

I actually like the food at Akershus better. For your appitizer there is a buffet of cheeses, deli meats, salads and I want to say fruit. Then you pick an entree for your main dish. Dessert is a plate of three different things which were all yummy. The price of the meal also includes a photo package of a picture you and your mom will take with Belle when you enter the restaurant (it is also included if you use a meal plan).

I think at Biergarten I ended up drinking more than I ate. I guess I was in too festive of a mood that night. :lmao:

Let me look at Flying Fish. I guess I never gave it a thought since I'm from CT where we have so much seafood and it isn't that 'disney ish' - but let me look over the menu! :) We're going to do Jellyrolls that night I think so that would work out nice.

We have a few seafood restaurants here on Long Island that we really enjoy. I thought that FF was better than most of them. The wait staff is very helpful with the menu if you have any questions. They also have what I think is the BEST dessert on property in the Caramelized Banana Napoleon. On our next trip, we decided to not have a standard dinner there but instead we are trying out the Chef's Wine Tasting Dinner, which we are excited to try.

My girlfriend and I use FF as our dinner before we head over to Jellyrolls. A 7:15 PM reservation will get you through dinner (without being or feeling rushed), leaving you more than enough time to walk the meal off a bit on the Boardwalk and head into Jellyroll's and get a table. It really is a very pleasant night. :thumbsup2

I prefer the food at Akershus over Biergarten. I also liked Chefs de France and considered that for my upcoming trip with my mom, but decided I'd rather try some new places. We're hitting Rose & Crown, Coral Reef, Teppen Edo (aunt's favorite) and Garden Grill in Epcot.

I would do:
Boma
Biergarten
Artist Point

DH and I are probably in the minority and prefer Boma over Jiko. We love the variety of soups, entrees and those fabulous desserts!

We hardly ever miss Biergarten on a trip to WDW! This is a family favorite. We enjoy the food, the entertainment and of course the cold beer. The only drawback is that you will be seated at a table with other guests. I believe each table seats 6.

Artists Point is another personal favorite! Go a little early and take in the Lodge and all that it has to offer.
