Does anyone have "county fair foods" to share? I got this recipe for Fried Dill Pickles from Gooseberry Patch:

3 eggs
1 c. milk
1 c. Italian-seasoned dry bread crumbs
15 dill pickle spears
1/4 c. all purpose flour
oil for deep frying
garnish: ranch or thousand island dressing

Beat together eggs & milk in a small bowl; mix crumbs and flour in another small bowl. Dip pickles into egg mixture; roll in crumb mixture. Heat several inches of oil to 375 degrees in a deep fryer; fry pickles 3 to 5 at a time until golden. Drain on paper towels. Serve with dressing for dipping. Makes 4 to 5 servings.

I'm not a dill pickle person, but I'll bet my husband would love these. Thanks for sharing.

Elephant Ears

1 1/2 cups milk
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons shortening
2 packets yeast
4 cups flour
Oil for frying
Sugar mixture (Mix 1/2 cup sugar with 1 teaspoon cinnamon)

Heat together, but do not boil, milk, sugar, salt and shortening until shortening is melted.
Cool to lukewarm; add yeast and stir until dissolved.
Stir in flour, 2 cups at a time, beating until smooth after each addition.
Put in greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth and let rise until double, about 30 minutes.
Dust hands with flour; pinch off pieces of dough about the size of a golf ball.
Stretch each ball into a thin 6- to 8-inch circle.
Heat oil to 350 degrees.
Drop stretched dough, one at a time, into hot oil.
Fry until it rises to the surface; turn and fry other side until light brown.
Drain on absorbent paper and sprinkle generously with sugar mixture.

Lemon Shake-Ups

4 lemons, scrubbed
1/2 cup superfine sugar, or to taste
2 1/4 cups water
Ice cubes

Cut lemons in half and squeeze the juice from them. Pour juice into a jar with a tight-fitting lid.
Add sugar, water, ice and 2 to 3 of the lemon halves. Close the jar and shake vigorously. Serve at once.

Funnel Cakes

3-4 cups all purpose flour
3 eggs
2 cups milk
1/4 cup sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
powdered sugar (for topping)
vegetable oil (for deep frying - heat to 375 degrees)

Beat the eggs, then add the sugar and milk. Sift 2 cups of flour, the salt, and the baking powder and add to the milk, sugar, and egg mixture.

Mix while adding more flour until the batter is smooth and not too thick. The funnel should have an opening of at least 1/2 inch and be able to hold around a cup of batter. Put your finger over the bottom and add about a cup of batter. Remove your finger and allow the batter to pour into the center of the oil. Be careful, the oil may splash!

Gradually swirl the batter outward in a circular motion, or criss-cross back and forth to make a cake about 7 or 8 inches round.

When "cakes" are golden brown, drain, sprinkle with confectioners' sugar and serve warm.

BTW - this will work equally well with pickle slices and they are GOOD!

Also you can do the same thing with corn on the cob (preferably it's been steamed/boiled to a point) - just change the bread crumbs/panko to corn meal.
