Counter Service Kids Menus ?

Unfortunately, I don't know if any of the CS places that have McD's accept the dining plan. Too bad, beacuse there are a couple of places (Village Fry Shoppe in MK , Refreshment Port in Epcot, and a place in the AK) that offer a meal of a hot dog or nuggets with McD's fries (and then there are just the McD's fry carts - maybe you can use a snack credit for just fries?), but they aren't listed as being on the plan. Anyone know if they actually take DDP credits?

In trying to figure if the plan will work for us on our next trip (assuming kids are limited to children's menus at CS locations) these are the places I came up with that will work for my kids. I left off places that only offered PB&J, Grilled Chicken, Tacos, or Fish since our guys don't go for that. I also noted the places with no kids menus, and those where you can substitute fries for the healthy side options (yes, fries are big with our kids). So here are OUR options:

MK
Caseys - Hot Dog, Fries (no kids menu)
Columbia Harbour House - Mac & Cheese
Cosmic Ray's - Corn Dogs, Salad with Chicken (can substitute fries as side)
Main Street Bakery - Couple different sandwiches...oh, and the pastries! (no kids menu)
Pinocchio Village Haus - Mac & Cheese (can substitute fries)

Epcot
Boulangerie Patisserie - France - Couple different sandwiches, french bread pizza.....oh, and the pastries (no kids menu, only get a reg size drink)
Liberty Tree - Chicken Nuggets
Lotus Blosson - Lo Mein, Rice (no kids menu)
Sommerfest - Hot dog (no kids menu)
Tangerine Cafe - Burger, Pizza, Chicken Tenders (can substitute fries)
Electric Umbrella - Chicken Nuggets, Mac & Cheese
Sunshine Season - Mac & Cheese, Mini Sub

MGM
ABC Commisary - Cicken Nuggets, Veg Noodle Stir Fry
Backlot Express - Chicken Nuggets
Catalina Eddies - Pizza (no kids menu)
Rosies All American - Chicken Nuggets, Mac & Cheese (can substitute fries)
Starring Rolls - selection of sandwiches (no kids menu)
Toy Story Pizza Planet - Pizza (no kids menu)

AK
Flame Tree BBQ - Hot Dog, Baked Chicken Wings
Restaurantosaurus - Chicken Nugget Happy Meal
Tusker House - Mac & Cheese, Baked Chicken Drumstick

Resorts
Boardwalk Bakery - Various sandwiches......oh, and the pastries (no kids menu)
Food N Fun (Contemporary) - Grilled Cheese, Hot Dog, Chicken Strips, Mac & Cheese (can substitute fries)
Pepper Market - Chicken Strips, Hot Dog, Pizza, Pasta
Gasparilla Games (GF) - Chicken Tenders, Hot Dog
Captain Cooks (Poly) - Chicken Strips, Grilled Cheese, Turkey Sandwich
Roaring Forks - Chicken Nuggets
Hurricaine Hanna's (YC) - Burger, Chicken Strips

DTD
Erle of Sandwich - Turkey Sandwich, Pizza Sandwich, Grilled Cheese
Wolfgang Puck Express - Pizza, Chicken Strips, Grilled Cheese, Mac & Cheese

So, that is what we'll choose from. Best values (for us at least) are probably Caseys, Main Street Bakery, Cosmic Rays, Pinnochio Village Haus, Patisserie (France), Lotus Blossom, Sommerfest, Tangerine Cafe, Catalina Eddies, Pizza Planet, Boardwalk Bakery, Pepper Market, Wolfgang Puck Express......basically anyplace that either doesn't have a kids menu, or offers fries or pizza.

If they like McD fries - there is a place in Fantasyland where you can use snack credits for McD fries.
Are you sure about this? There are numerous places throughout WDW that offer McD's fries, including a couple that offer a meal of 1/4 pound Hot Dog with Fries or Chicken Nuggets and fries. Village Fry Shoppe in MK, Refreshment Port in Epcot, Sunaulo Toran Fries in AK. However, none of those CS places are listed in the 2007 dining plan brochure that can be accessed via the Disneyworld website. I'd love for our kids to be able to get meals at these places (yes, bad daddy, I know) but I'm not sure you can. Since the brochure doesn't list EVERY place you can get a snack I suppose maybe you can get fries as a snack at the McD's fry carts. That would be good. Have you used DDP credits at any of these places?

Right on this board there is a thread with confirmed snacks at WDW. While you cannot get the McD's nuggets as a snack you can get the fries at the refreshment port in Epcot. You can also get the fries in MK in I think it's Frontierland. If you want McD's for CS you can get a kids chicken nugget happy meal with fries and a drink at the AK at Restauratosourous.

Too bad you can't get McD's CS meals other than Restaurantosaurusus......but it's good to know fries are a snack option. Thanks

I know many consider it to be 'unhealthy' but my boys LOVED the mini corn dogs at Cosmic Rays last trip! We are penciling it in twice this time because they have the most options for our 3 kids' tastes.

I have always found it odd Disney World doesn't offer a kid's sized burger. I saw Pecos Bills now offers a sloppy joe for kids- WTH? While my kids will eat sloppy joes, isn't it just easier to make a smaller burger?

I have to say, I hate that one of the most popular kid menu items is Mac and Cheese- it's the one meal all three of my kids hate. :sad2:

I think we will end up giving my 2 year old her 9 year old brother's kid meal (we are doing the DDP) and I will pay OOP for my 9 year old's meal. Luckily my 5 year old is usually OK with most options.

Thanks everyone!

DisneyKidds- I am printing out your happy-un-healthy-hey-we-are-on-vacation meal list!:thumbsup2 Thanks so much!

Disneykidds:

Wow - what a lot of work you did to create that list - thanks.

What struck me though by this entire thread is that eating at Disney World with our children should not be so difficult and complicated that we have to search out (ahead of time) CS restaurants that meet the needs and desires of our children!!! Hopefully Disney has taken notice to all the negative remarks about the kid's menus and does something about it sooner rather than later. Unfortunately it will likely not be by the time we go.

It's amazing, isn't it? I take a lot of hits from people because I've complained loud and long about the children's menu, but it's a travesty to me that WDW has made just getting a decent meal for you kid such a nightmare.

I've complained by letters and phone calls to Disney. I suggest everyone who feels similarly do the same. It's the only way they'll change...well that, and maybe seeing all those carrot sticks and jellos in the trash.

No problem. I was tired of wondering where we'd get the kids CS meals so now I know. Ya know....we do make our kids eat healthy once in a while ;), but I don't want to stress on vacation. As if my list isn't bad enough, there are times I bet a couple of snack credits for McDonald's french fries will be a whole meal for the boys. :scared1:  Hey, hey.....a snack credit for fruit can do the trick, too.

DisneyKidds:

You are certainly not alone; there are times I have been to Disney when I truly am a bit amazed at the number of hotdogs (not corn dogs), chicken fingers, pizza and fries my kids have eaten!!! It is not how we eat at home but when on vacation I loosen things up quite a bit!! I think healthy options are a wonderful idea provided Disney lets the parents decide what their kids eat rather than limiting menus to things that many kids do not even eat ever. Many of these odd choices aren't even what I would consider healthy. I think one poster on this thread or another thread hit it on the head when they said that Disney has limited the kids menus so older kids and even sometimes adults can not order those items at the counter service restaurants where you cannot enforce age requirements for these options.

I really hope that Disney begins to offer both healthy and traditional items for the kids at its counter service restaurants; chilled chicken, sloppy joes, corn dogs, tacos, mac and cheese, Uncrustables, etc. are not going to cut it for my daughter. I see myself sharing a lot of my meals with her. It will help with my usual vacation weight gain!!!!

That is exactly how I feel! My kids eat very healthy at home but

a) we are on vacation! I just want them to eat something that isn't pure sugar and be happy.

b) eating out is expensive! (even with the DDP) At home if they won't eat much of my black-bean-and-wild-rice-delight it is no big deal.. I can give them an apple or a sandwhich or whatever but the last thing I want is to purchase a meal my child won't eat and then 40 minutes later search out something they WILL eat at an additional cost (of time and money)

c) yay for Disney for having healthy options (my kids Love carrot sticks) but it should be an option.. not they only choice... I would have the same problem if pizza was the only thing you could eat at Disney.

Ok soap box over (I think)!

Have a magical day:wizard:

The 2007 Dining Plan Brochure has quite a lot of mistakes in it. Places left out and misprints on credits needed.
