Counter service at Wilderness Lodge? Any good?

We are planning a trip over to tour the Wilderness Lodge resort during our out of park break time and I was wondering if the counter service food there is decent? I am trying to decide whether we want to have lunch there or somewhere else. Do they have a nice area to sit and eat that is scenic? And is the food quality any good? I don't want mediocre food. If it's just so-so we will wait and go to Earl of Sandwich at DD. Ideas?

It's okay. Nothing special. Has an eating area with a kind of rustic fishing lodge look. But it's on the ground floor, so no views and nothing scenic unless you sit out by the pool.

I can say easily that we enjoy the meals offered there.....we've stayed there over 10 times and RF's food is no different then anyother CS place.....we like the hamburgers and hand tossed salads and the flat bread pizza aren't bad but.......we're lunch pool picnic people....we make sandwiches wth store fixings we picked up in route but we've eaten at the Forks a few times for dinner....so....a hamburger is a hamburger...what can I say....it doesn't seat a whole lot of people so that could be an issue...guess it depends on time of year and time of day...

I can safely say, we've gone to other resorts for a certain meal, like POFQ, for a meatball sandwich or spaghetti.....seems some of the mods offer more in their food court than a deluxe since the deluxe has 2 TS restaurants and the mods don't have any......WL experience would be great but if you want a better choice...head to DTD and Earl....easy to check out the menus of the different resort restaurants and see what you like before wasting you time.....

The food's pretty standard fare for all the disney food courts, but since it's small it is scaled back. I can't think of any dishes that are special to Roaring Folks that you can't get elsewhere.

The nicest spots to eat are outside: there are number of tables directly outside the doors to Roaring Forks and there are many more (always free) behind Trout Pass Bar on the opposite side of the pool. I like the latter best as you have the beach right there and can see the geyser and a small stream.

If the weather's bad there's nothing wrong with the indoor area, but it's just a medium sized room, not better, no worse than Earl of Sandwich at DD. Good for a food break, but to relax after you're done head out to the main lobby - explore the fireplace, on all levels

As others have said, the food is pretty standard with chicken fingers, burgers, hot dogs, etc. The one thing I saw new this year was the BBQ brisket flatbread pizza. It was amazing. As far as scenic places to eat, the dining area is somewhat small, but there are tables outside and locations around the pool area. I don't recall any tables and chairs in the lobby area you could sit in and enjoy the lobby...

We ate at Roaring Fork twice for dinner and the food was pretty good. Would I go out of my way to eat there, probably not. But I would go out of my way to go to the Wilderness Lodge. I just love walking around this resort. If we know we want to have a meal at the WL, we will usually just have dinner at Whispering Canyon.

Thank you very much everyone! I think then we will just dine elsewhere and tour the resort and hopefully get a resort specific souvenir in the gift shop. We are staying so POFQ so we may just have lunch there or Earl of Sandwich at DD, and then visit before we return to the parks.

If you're looking for a place to eat there in the evening (won't work for lunch), try the Territory Lounge, they have some pretty good food and Artist Point's cheese plate. But it's a bar, so if you have children it may not be what you are looking for, and they don't take DDP.
