Im trying to figure my counter serv meals, can I get a side instead of a dessert if on the dining plan. for example at flametree in AK, can I get say the chicken meal then instead of dessert get a side of fries?

I've gotten a second drink (water bottle) instead of dessert at a CS meal. So I don't see why you couldn't get a side instead of dessert.

you cannot get a side for dessert...anywhere. They don't sub sides for desserts at Disney restaurants (no apps instead of desserts, either, darn the luck.) The only sub I've ever seen allowed at counter service is a bottled water instead of dessert. Now some places have fruit for sale--and will allow fruit as your dessert. Flame Tree does not allow any substitutions on their platters -- you get the cole slaw & the beans, and that's it. You'll have to pay cash if you want fries with your food.

Some places will let you sub sides for sides...like if you don't want fries with your burger, you can sub fruit-my adult daughter was allowed to do that a couple of places, including Cosmic Rays in MK subbed grapes for fries, and POFQ counter service subbed apple slices for fries

I have been able to get fruit as my dessert but have never tried to get a side so I don't know if they will allow that or not.

You can ask, but the response will likely be "no." Some cashiers are willing to let you substitute a bottle of water, some fruit or a bag of chips (and some are not), but they generally will not let you sub a side for a dessert.
