Count down ideas

We leave for our trip in a bit over 2 months. I am looking for a fun way for the (4 & 8) to count down the days. Any suggestions?

I make paper chains for most of our trips, and we cut off a ring every night. Another good idea for WDW is to have a special night for each country in Epcot, maybe on Friday nights, where you eat some of the foods, read a book about the country, learn some words in their language, etc.
We also watch the planning dvd and any Disney movies we have over and over prior to a trip!

My DD7 came up with an idea I hadn't thought of for our DLR trip next month. (We usually do chains.) I showed her my Mickey punch and asked for her ideas. We made a long strip of paper from taping several 2-inch-wide strips of construction paper together and wrote the numbers from 30 down to 1 on them. We hung it below our upper cabinets. Every morning we Mickey-punch another number that tells us how many days we have left.

I like this because it feel like we are adding to the decoration, not taking away something.

I always do a countdown chain with my daughter for vacations or special events and she loves being able to rip a chain off before bed every night. I did see another great idea on the disboards which i think i'm going to try sometime also and that was to go to home depot and in the paint department where they have the Mickey Mouse colors the sample paint chips are in the shape of mickey heads and the woman used those and labled each with a number and stuck them on a wall and each day one got removed. Obviously if you are going to do something like that and you wanted to do a 2 month (or even 1 month) countdown you'd probably want to make a couple of trips to Home Depot so you didn't get any weird looks as you grab 30 or 60 paint chips at once :-)

I just made a countdown today with the mickey paint cards from home depot. We are two weeks out, so I just need 14 paint cards. The kids are excited about tearing one off tonight!

Here's our Paint Chip countdown. We are currently at just one and a half rows left!

We used a row of Disney dollars taped together into a tall strip. Every night, my daughter got to take one dollar down and put it into her little purse. She got to spend her money once we were there.

Is $350 too much spending money for next year :confused3 We booked bounceback :goodvibes OK.... maybe I should wait a few months (or 10) before we start a new chart...

Not sure how old your DD is, but mine will be celebrating her 6th birthday there in 2 weeks and she will have close to that much between money she's earned, Disney Dollars from last xmas and her birthday and from the free admission gift card. Considering how expensive things are and that we will be there for 10 days I think $30-35 isn't too bad. I told DD as $$ was tight this year (and now even more so since I was laid off 2 weeks ago) that if she wanted a princess outfit she would need to use her money for one (although she gets to have her hair and nails done at BBB for her b-day) and she has been wanting the aurora castle for the last 3 years but I would not pay $75 for it so I think I know what she may be coming home with this year since she'll have more money than she normally does :-)
