Share your ideas for count down calenders. I want to make one for my son and would love the inspiration.

For our first trip in Feb 2008 (which Santa Claus "brought"), we just used a Disney Princess calendar for DD and I found tons of Disney stickers at the Dollar Tree and every-morning she put a sticker on the day to mark it off. She loved it.

Also, my very crafty cousin-in-law, took a holiday advent calendar and literally took the thing part and somehow put disney pictures/stickers behind every window and the she replaced all the chocolate and that worked great too for those last 25 days....

DD did both of these every morning....(I think she liked the little dose of chocolate in the AM for 25 days the best :)

We did a paper chain for last years trip. DD6 loved getting up every morning, tearing off a link and counting what was left. Of course the chain can take up a lot of room.

I made one using the mickey head paint samples form home depot, numbered them and they crossed one off each day.

I made paper chains for my nieces and nephews. I sadly FORGOT to take a picture of the after product, and I sent the chains home with them. But here is a picture of how we started.

I precut the paper strips (and counted them out for exactly how much i needed) and we decorated the strips with stickers!

Then we attached the chains to these signs so they would have something to hang from...

And if you look in the background, you can see the start of the chain!

Have fun whatever you decide to do! I saw on another thread that someone had a paper chain that you can download and print out, and it has picture of disney characters. Ive never seen it, but it is a popular thread, and a lot of people have downloaded it!

Here is our countdown calendar. We started too far out - but we were excited. I bought a mickeyhead punch at the craft store and just punched a bunch out of red const. paper.

Oh boy!!!! That is a long countdown!! You must have felt a HUGE sigh of relief crossing off that last Mickey head!!! The chain that we made started with 40 days, and THAT is even hard!! Some of the little kids still don't understand its only ONE per day to rip off. They think if we rip up the whole chain we can leave for Disney hahah!

Love these ideas. We have 84 days to go. Once we get closer, maybe around 30 days to go, we'll definitely be making a countdown calendar!

We did one similar to this with the Mickey :earsboy: heads. Ours was a long skinny one we hung on the inside of our front door. I bought all kinds of stickers and let the kids decorate the paper. I made a large mickey head with the date we were departing on and a picture of the GF I found on line, since that's where we were staying. I glued the Mickey heads on small clothes pins I got at Michael's and every night we just removed the heads. I put the big numbers on the bottom and the small on top so that when the last one was left we were up top at the big Mickey :mickeyjum . We set it up so we took the last one off the day we left, and made a super huge deal of taking that one off in the morning. We have 2 kids so one got to do the even days and one the odd. We even came up with a special clap that we would do and whoever was the first one to remember we needed to take off the next head that night would start the clap. No mater where we were in the house we could hear the clap and come dancing into the room. We always danced around a clapped for a minute or 2 just to make it more fun and then the number would come off. It was great for our 5 year old too because it helped her with her numbers and number recognition. I kept the chart and plan to use it again for our next trip although the Big Mickey will have to be adjusted to have the correct date and resort for that trip. We had a ball doing it. Have fun making yours!
