Despite my decision to wait until my bday in april closer to the S3 coming out -for a better price and excuse to buy a new camera. I went ahead and bought the Canon S2IS today at Sears. I have unloaded it etc. besides being very intimidating I think it may be broken. The viewfinder (Not the LCD) is blurry. Even after focusing. Is this normal?? or is my brand new camera already busted?

I did buy the insurance Sears offers. If it is broken do you think I should bring it right back or wait until the insurance papers get here. Of course I already threw out the spanish operating manuals so the package is not complete.
Help. Opinions really needed.

Congratulations, good camera.

Did you adjust the diopter dial? The viewfinder is not really great. It is marginal, it is electronic, moderate quality. I almost never use it, the LCD is always fine for me.

Don't bother with the EVF (ELectronic View Finder), they tend to be blurry and for lack of better term, cr@ppy. If your LCD looks fine, then you're set.

Oh Thanks guys. The LCD is great. That makes me feel better. I am so intimidated by this camera at the moment. I had not even got to a good point with my A520 yet but I had to have the S2IS. It is amazing so far.

It takes some time to learn all the features. I got mine back last early November, have taken several thousand shots, still refer to the manual for things. It is a lot of camera. Have fun.

There is a little grey dial to the left of the view finder that controls the viewfinder. Try moving that to improve clarity. I use both the LCD and viewfinder.

It is intimidating, isn't it? I just got mine a couple of weeks ago and I'm having so much fun playing with it. Best part -- the batteries have lasted all that time.

Someone here recommended a book called Understanding Exposure or something like that. I bought it and it has been an incredible help to me. Between that and my owner's manual, I think I'm set!

I strongly recommend "Jumpstart Guide to your Digital SLR" or "Digital Photography Jumpstart Guide Instruction DVD" both currently available on eBay.

I am very tempted by this camera! Does anyone have some pics they can put up that they have taken using this camera? I would love to see pics from day and night to see what can be taken using this camera!

If you go to the link on the left in my signature, and then look at links numbered 29, 30, 32, those are with a Canon 2S IS. All the pictures are reduced in size and compressed for purposes of being able to load quickly.

Thanks everyone. I panicked but all is well. I did adjust the little grey knob an dit was much better. i also went out and bought a book on digital photography. Lots of reading and studying to do but no more panic attacks.
:thumbsup2

Hey, Mom Possible.

Why Sears (was the price the full 499.99)? Some of the big box electronics stores around here sell it for less (around 400.00).

Not criticizing, just curious... did your Sears have any promotional going on (for either that item, or generally)?

Considering picking one of these up this week. I know the S3 is coming out soon, but I'm seeing the S2 prices drop right now because of that.

Hi there
Yes actually Sears had it on special and I got the camera for $350 with tax and then added on the store insurance for a little les than $100. Apparently with the insurance if anything goes wrong (except stolen) they will replace it. I have a friend who has gone through 3 cameras but had this insurance from sears and they have not payed for a replacement so it seems a good deal.

Took it out today and I am thrilled with the results. Have to figure out how to post.
