When I got my kids' golden mickey ears yesterday at Disneyland, I was going to put their VMK names on them...they wouldn't let me! She said they had to put the child's first name on there (as it is on their birth certificate)!

Not that they would *check* a birth certificate, but that's what she said. There was no way I could "sneak" the VMK names by her, they clearly were not what was on their birth certificates.

Anyway, I was bummed. And I think it's a silly rule. I'm sure there's a reason for it. But it's annoying just the same. :confused3

Yeah I didn't know this either until recently. Apparently it's a long-standing rule to not put nicknames or any other sort of "not real" names on a pair of ears.

Of course, if you suck up enough, anything can be done. pixiepal had a set made for me and told them my name was Totiana but I went by tot and they put Tot on there (Long story, but that's what my husband calls me LOL).

So, pretty much, you have to lie.

"Uh yes, My names is GBShorts, what of it? My mother was eccentric!"

Yes, it's been that way for year. My son wanted just part of his name, but they said it had to be the whole thing.

They also have a sign about formal names where they make the name badges too.

Yeah, I got by with "Kit" on mine (which is not my real name). But she just wouldn't go for "Dash" or "Doodle" for my kids (these are actually only part of their VMK names which would be too long otherwise).

Oh, well, Disney just has their own way of doing things sometimes...

Well, if you REALLY want your VMK name on a pair of ears, you could always buy them plain and sew the name on yourself, or pay someone to do it.
( a friend from high school did this with her nickname )

I was able to talk a woman into putting Jellybear on my ears for the Build A Bear someone gave me. She told me not to wear them in the park, though.

THANK GOODNESS, my mom named me MousseDude. You see, the old gal was quite fond of the chocolatey dessert. What? my birth certificate? i seem to have forgotten it my good man. ;)

Wolf got a pin bag with 'Pix' on it at WDW, maybe they are less strict there?
I am going on Wednesday, so I will let you know!

on my gold ears i ordered from DL they did put my last name. Maybe because it has also been used by others as a first name? :confused3

I believe at Disneyland there is an automated hat writer somewhere in the park where you can put any name you like, I know I have read it somewhere before on the forums. Could someone clarify this, please?

if it does exist, i am sure it could only print pre-programmed names. otherwise somebody like, oh i dont know, jelly and I could have an awful lot of fun with that lol. :teeth:

maltoo could be a foreign name sure, maybe from india. ;)

Basically, long standing rule to stop something obscene or otherwise un-Disney from sneaking by.

I can just picture it now -

Maleficent2 standing outside the hat shop, asking every Indian person passing by if they will go inside and buy her a six-pack of ears that say Maltoo, hoping that they won't get "carded" ...

OMG...that is just too funny! :rotfl2:

Thanks for the chuckle...I almost fell off my chair!

I did manage to get Tishke put on my ears. DS6 and I went and shopped in the candy store while DH ordered and paid for the ears. They made him spell Tishke for them on a card and when they asked what nationality it was, he said..."Dutch, of course!". :rotfl:

I tried to get them to put puker on them for a fried of mine once, but that didn't work out.
