Couldn't believe my eyes this morning, $1.61286

Couldn't believe my eyes this morning when I checked the bank exchange rate, it's showing $1.61286 at 6.10am, fingers crossed it stays above the $1.60 level.

Just shows no-one can possibly know what the exchange rate will do, its not long since on a thread there were worries of it dropping as low as $1.30.

I have mixed feeling of it rising just now, waiting for a refund of $5,500. I paid it a few months back at about $1.54 = £3,571. Now if it the rate is $1.62 I will only get £3,395. Going to cost me around £176
On the other hand we leave for our next trip 3 weeks today so I will save on what we spend.

the trend is on the rise for at least the next couple of days

yesterday (around 6pm) there were news (not going into detail) on the financial scene that boosted the european currencies (EUR and GBP) and confirmed the upward trend (up = good for us)

so GBP and EUR will (most probably) continue to rise for a few days, but I just secured $1000 today at a good rate, because, once the change bureaus consider that the GBP might fall, they will lower the rate at which they sell you USD

so it might be a good idea to buy USD now, or tomorrow if the trend is still to the rise. But who knows what will happen during and after the weekend ?

The only thing I know is that I bought through Travelex (FR) and today for each Euro I spent, I got 9.5 cents (US cents) more than I would have gotten yesterday. (that's 60 euros saved or £50 ... which is quite nice for just one day)

It's sounding good chmurf I'm about to purchase some software in US$ so I will make sure I do that tonight rather than leave it Every little helps

Come to think of it, I want to book a lens to rent while away, also in US$ ... think I'll take care of that too. Oh and Photopass+ ...... anything else I should add to the list?

Will be spending very little this trip but I do have over $3,000 balance to pay off the cruise for next Sept. Do I pay soon or wait?

Just thinking DD has asked for all future pocket money to be paid to her in dollars so that she can't spend them. I am minded to just go change a sum of it so that I can hand it to her every month ....

They have several branches in The City where you can order online and get the better rate but then go into the branch and "buy" your currency. I work in a bank and everyone here uses them as they always give at least a couple of points better than other fx exchanges

We bought out currency a couple of weeks back as we were worried the rate was going to fall. Ok so it's gone up a few more cents but TBH I was happy with the rate we got and as PP has said all the better if it stays high while we are out there but no one really knows.

I was a little gutted as we changed. £2000 at rate of. 5.1!

Well I'm happy it was not way down which I was worried it would be.
Still it's a lottery really you just have to jump for the rate you are happy.
