Could you make a day out of short-line attractions?

I posted a question about how to organize a stay at Universal resorts in the Resorts section of this forum.

But part of the question may be better answered under this subforum. Can I make a day out of short-line attractions at Universal? If so, how would you do it? There has to be someone that has actually considered this???

Purpose: Save costs on one night by staying across the street at Holiday Inn that day. No express passes. No problem. Just go to attractions with short lines that day. Then check into a Universal resort the next night and get express passes for the next 2 days to hit the important stuff with early entrance and express passes.

i think you can surely see everything with your plan. You cant overstate how much time is saved staying onsight for 2 days. Only thing I would do different from your plan is that I would hit Harry Potter on the day that you are offsite ,since you have to wait in line anyway.

Which rides/shows would you plan on the day without express pass? We have never been to Universal before. So we are looking for advice from people that have been there during the busy times and know which rides/shows have short lines (even during busy times). Am I in the right forum?

By the way wouldn't we want to do the Harry Potter on a day when we get in early (1 hour early) because of the universal property stay?

You might want to use that day to hit any shows. At USF- The Parade, the nighttime show Cinematic Spectacular, The Blues Brothers, The Horror Make-Up Show, Terminator, and Fear Factor Live (open seasonally). If you have small kids, there's a Barney show too. At IOA there's the Sinbad Show and you could explore the Jurassic Park Discovery Center. Even walking around Camp Jurassic can be fun!

Someone else on this forum (different thread of mine) said the following:

Shows also have express pass ,so you may get in, but you get in after the express pass people do( they let them in first).SO you might not have great seats.
Beetlejuice, Animal Actors, Horror makeup , Sindbad are all shows..Horror makeup has a smaller capacity than the others.Blues Brothers do a street show .Terminator and DIsaster have show components but can have long lines.Fear Factor is also a show in a large theater, but whether it will be open when you go is unknown. It wasnt open last January or this August when we went

Are the shows that you suggested not really impacted by the express pass users going first?

there are many that only do 2 days in the parks.
they usually concentrate on the rides and do the shows as an after thought.

i don't think the express lines getting in first will be an issue for youse.

yesterday when i was in the parks doing shows, the express line had about 15 peeps, rest of the crowd were in the regular lines.

tuesday and wednesdays have been light the past two weeks.
i noticed how small the groups were for the shows those days.
