I am planning on buying both of my kids their own Nintendo before our June WDW vacation, and am trying to decide which one to get them. If you have kids (mine are 6 and 9) that have experiences with both the Advance SP and the DS could you please ask them which one is better and why??? I really want kids points of view on this. Obviously, cost wise, I would rather get them the SP, since I am getting 2 of them and it is $40 cheaper.... but if the DS is REALLY worth the extra money, from a kid's point of view, then I would get them that one. Thanks so much in advance for any help your kids can give me!!!!!

DS Lite is way better. My DD7 has the DS (not lite) and the GBA SP. The DS has the dual screens, a much better selection of higher-quality games (but plays all the GBA games as well), and much better graphics. The DS lite adds an even better screen as well as better backlighting (the DS and SP are both hard to play outside in sunlight - the DS Lite is apparently much better than the others for this). The DS/DS Lite is well worth the cost increase.

There was a great thread on the DS before Christmas that talked about the questions you have. It was started by New England Disney, who is an expert on all things Nintendo. If I can find it, I'll link to it for you.

my kids don't read this-----but having purchased the three girls ds's at xmas I can honestly say they will like those better----and you can play all the old gameboy games on it as well----we have the advanced model too, now that got delegated to the little brother. I've played with their ds's----wish I had one for myself-----they do cost considerably more than the advanced, but so much more tech advanced than the latter---you may want to invest in cases for them and extra stiluses (sp?) becauses they are easily lost........

Also, for your kids ages, the Mario games for DS are great (Mario Kart, New Super Mario Bros, Princess Peach if you have a girl). DD7 also really likes Nintendogs, Kim Possible and the Suite Life of Zach and Cody for DS!

I cannot emphasize enough that the DS lite is way way better. Our sons had the older ones -- Game Boy Advances, and they were always in a drawer. They never played with them. The DS is so much brighter and more fun! It's even helping my 5 year old learn about letters -- because they use the chat feature constanly. My 7 year old plays Brain Age, it's a fun learning game.

I consider the DS Lite a completely different toy than the GBA.

I'm thinking of selling our GBAs on ebay but I have never used ebay, so I'm not sure.

My daughters 5 and 9 LOVE their DS (Lites) they got from Santa this Christmas. The touch screen is the big draw, it's a different kind of interaction with the game than just the buttons. I even like to play it...there's a game called Brain Age...my dd9 and I both play that one. It might be a little more, but the DS games are a lot cooler...and the system plays the GB advanced games too, so you can pick up games on clearance and yard sales, etc. for not TOO much $$. (At least I have been able to)

I'd let dd9 get on here and give a review in her opinion, but she doesn't need to see this site...our trip in March is still a surprise and I'm trying to keep it that way! :rotfl: :rolleyes1

According to DS11, my resident video game expert, the Nintendo DS is "way better" than Game Boy Advance. :)

My kids 9, 12, 14 have gameboys sp and gameboy DS and they said DS are way better.

DS9 (just turned 9 the other day) is in bed, so I asked DD12.
She said he would undoubtedly say "DS".
When I asked her why, she replied, "Because it just is".

**BTW, she has her own DS too.

My son votes the DS! My nephew (older video game nut) told us not to bother with PS. He works at Wal-Mart, plays with all the equipment, etc. He also said the the new Playstation is not very good, and is very dissapointed in the products SONY has been putting out lately. Lots of bugs, etc. This is pretty much all he does, so I trust his judgement.

As a parent I can also attest that the DS lite is the way to go.:thumbsup2 The Nintendogs game alone has held their attention more than any arcade type GBA game ever did. Plus , as previous posters stated, old GBA games play on it.

I think the SP would be easier for the 6 year old and the DS for your 9yo. My two older girls(ages 6 & 9) have the SP. The 6yo has finally mastered it and loves it, but the 9yo is asking for the DS because its a little more involved/difficult. Hope this helps.

DSlite is way to go. my kids have had all of the systems. ages 8-14

they love to play online with neighborhood kids sitting in our garage

biggest feature for me is they can still play all their old games if they want to.

or just forget the handheld stuff and get them a Wii !!!! We love it and they can even take it and play in car with proper hook ups. hehehehe

yup, dslite is way to go.

DS Lite!! My 3 have all 3 and they prefer the DS Lite. They are 7, 7, and 9.

DS lite. My kids have both and prefer the DS. Even my 4 yo plays the DS instead of the advance.

DS 10 says

DS Lite is soooooooooooooooo much better than SP.

DS Lite!! DD(9) loves it!! As a parent, I love it. She loves The Dog game and now she has a cooking one, it is really so cute and amazing!! FYI you can go to an Eb Games/Gamestop and they have them used for sale. They only sell ones in perfect condition with all the original stuff with a warranty. It could save you some money since you will be buying 2. Also, these are very popular and since Dec they have been pretty hard to find, new or used. If you can't find one locally, Ebay is always an option.
