We're supposed to be leaving tomorrow morning for DD's first trip to Disney and she woke up at 5am with a temp of 103.

I know in the grand scheme of life, it's not the end of the world if we have to postpone or whatever ends up happening.

But the poor kid seriously gets sick for everything. She had roseola for her first birthday and her party had to be cancelled. She had the swine flu for Halloween last year. She can't catch a break.

Just looking for some sympathy for those who understand how excited we are! Hopefully it will just be a quick bug!

:grouphug: So sorry your DD isn't feeling well. Hopefully it is just something she can get over quickly. Here is hoping you get some pixie dust and can make your trip pixiedust:.

Awww, I am so sorry. DD had croup last week and her fever lasted a few days. Does she have any other symptoms? DD is prone to high fevers but they are usully accompanied by other symptoms. I know some kids spike them and they are gone in 24 hrs. Hope she is better soon!!!

aww...poor kid. How old is she?
Personally I wouldn;t postpone the trip unless you live close and it's a short trip. Most fevers last 24-36 hours. So I would start with the motrin/tylanol regimine and keep it going for the next 30 hours and then she should be good.
Or I would take her right to the dr for antibiotics.

she'll be 3 on monday. she does easily spike high fevers when she's under the weather. we'll head to the doc today to see if there's anything obvious i'm missing, but no other real symptoms other than lethargy (which, clearly i'd be lethargic, too). the tylenol brought it down to around 101...

So sorry! My 3 yo caught a bug two days before we flew down in January. It was over in 24 hrs, and she seemed fine. She did wake up, vomitting, the first night in POR and that was gross to deal with--had to call mousekeeping for new linens. But then she was basically fine the rest of the week. A little off as far as appetite but she enjoyed the trip and had fun. So even if it gets icky today, I would just have her rest and I am sure she will be fine soon. Those bugs do seem to come and go fast!
Have a great trip!
Tessie

we're flying down tomorrow, staying through monday. took her to the pedi and other than the fever, she couldn't find anything wrong. she threw up one time this morning at 5am but has kept everything down since then. she's been acting completely fine but her temp was starting to creep up just before her nap as the tylenol had worn off.

the doc did a strep test and everything just to find something she could "cure" for us. we'll just have to see how the evening goes, i guess! i just don't want to expose everyone on the plane to it!

I understand the desire to not want to expose other people. But lets face it, she has the common cold. the common cold is communicable up to 10 days before you show symptoms. so at any given time we are all being exposed...or exposing other to it, with out knowing.
If she isn't sneezing, coughing, throwing up....she isn't going to pass it along. Just don't let her lick people as they walk by her.

We leave tomorrow for the World too!! How old is your DD? I personally wouldn't postpone. I would load her up on fluids, tylenol and make sure she gets plenty of rest. Like others said, it sounds like a normal cold.

Good luck

thanks, guys. i think we'll probably still go tomorrow, barring something changing. i'm just sensitive to the whole plane thing, i think, because i caught a nasty stomach bug travelling last year and ended up in the hospital- pregnant, dehydrated, etc. i know it's just a bug of some sort and she'll be fine, i just hate the thought of her being miserable and others getting sick because of her.

and no, she's not sneezing, coughing, etc....just the fever and the one puke!

Thank you for your consideration of others :goodvibes I am always amazed at the number of people that put their needs and wants before what is best for everyone. I am pregnant and have caught everything possible this pregnancy. I have not been well since November and it's so frustrating.

I am not sure how the PP knows it's a "common cold." And even if it is, the common cold to a 3 yr old can be very different than in someone else who might catch it. All the colds I have gotten over the last several months have turned into more serious infections and being pregnant, there's not much I can take. Also, not to scare you but DD2 had a fever last year about this time, spiked really high really quickly without warning and she ended up having a febrile seizure. She was never diagnosed with anything other than a virus but it most certainly was contagious as we caught it as well.....and it was nasty!

Hope your DD is better soon and you are able to have a great trip!!

I hope she's bounces back quick! I have 5 kids and it seems like someone is always sick! My kids tend to get huge bruises/cuts/stitches on their faces just before big photo-taking events. If it's not one thing, it's another!!

Best wishes to your little gal!

Give her a dose of Tylenol and Motrin AT THE SAME TIME. Works Wonders!!!My dd7 would spike fevers often and this is what the Pediatric Specialist recommended, and our GP agreed too. Seriously works so well! Good luck!!
