no, they don't put people in jail for an expired tag. They might tow your car, but you won't go to jail for it.

Yeah, that's certainly true. I've just never had a speeding ticket and haven't had an interest in being well informed on the laws regarding traffic infractions. Surely he'll come out of this with a mammoth fine. :confused3 Just curious as to how bad it could get. :scratchin

Like the others said, unlikely he'll go to jail.

Most jails are overcrowded, and they only put people in there if they need to be separated from society for something.

Does he not have the money to pay for the tags? Cause getting repeated fines is going to cost him a lot more than just getting the stupid tags . . .

No he won't go to jail but does he realize the longer they don't get the tag the more it will cost? It is a tax you are paying and they start charging interest when you are late.

He has no money woes at all. That's what causes my near outrage. So, *so* senseless and unnecessary. SIL is an Industrial Engineer and my DD is a nursing supervisor in a large hospital...her salary is very good. Besides that, as an only grandchild to my parents, they GAVE her a house on a lake as a wedding gift. Also, they have no children, so....I think the afforability of a license tag is within reason for these two.

Are you saying that if he fails to get the new tag right away (before court date) that interest charges will be added to the already existing fines? This is a learning experience for me. No frame of reference or past experiences to fall back on.

If their tags are expired doesn't that also mean they don't have valid insurance? They might suspend his license and then driving on a suspended license could get him jail time-- probably not much.

This is your dd's problem too, not just the sil. G/l with them.

Stinkerbelle's Mom, that sounds like a real possibility. And yes, my DD is involved just as much as the SIL.
