Could this be Homeland Security at work?

I got hit from behind while sitting at a red light this morning on my way to fill out papers at HR for my new job--Budwieser truck smashed the whole rear end. Crap. As if that weren't bad enough, the cop informed me that my license has been suspended for the PAST YEAR! WTH?? Color me stunned...So I had to call DH to come get me and I can't drive until I go to the Social Security office and straighten this out. You read that right. I have a clean driving record. Apparently, this is how Social Security operates. If you have a problem they are supposed to notify you. If you don't get whatever taken care of, they just suspend your license without notice. It's an arrestable offense!

Thankfully, the cop let me go. But the fine is over $600. I guess that's better than being bonded out of jail, but sheesh!! So now I need to find out what SS needs from me. I'm trying to find all my id in case they need it. Of course, I can't find my marriage license so we're probably living in sin, as well.

I have a bad headache. This is turning out to be a no good, very bad day...

That stinks. Will probably turn out to be a transposed digit or something. But, that doesn't keep it from being a big headache.

Are you sure he said Social Security and not the Secretary of State (state govt). It sounds wierd that the SSA has the power to suspend your DL? Before trecking on down to SSA, I'l call your DMV and see what the problem is.

Yeah, I almost got my licesne suspended when I failed to bring my car in for state emisions testing. Turns out that the ILEPA forgot to send me my little notice in the mail. Fortunatly the Sec. of Sate remembered to send out the notice saying my liciense was about to be revoked if I didn't comply.

So I called the ILEPA and they insisted that they send out notices to everyone and basicly said I was lieing and I had gotten the notices and just ignored them (why would I do that, I have no idea). I went round-robin with the guy on the phone for 10 minutes before I gave up.

After this happened I remembered that last time my test was due, they didn't send me the first two notices either, I only got the third and final warning, which also had a mis-printed date on it.

So now I'm going to somehow have to remember that I have to take my car in for testing once every two years all on my own, because I can't trust the state to send out the notices anymore.

I don't know about GA, but many states are comparing the names and SSNs of all existing driver’s license and ID card holders with SSA’s records.

During the process, some records were identified in which the name, date of birth and/or gender did not match. Those discrepancies must be resolved before a new driver license or ID card can be issued.

I just missed getting caught up in this myself. I lied about my age (birthdate) on my SS application when I was 15 so I could get a job. My SS records had a different (wrong) birthdate for over 40 years!

It was a big pain to get a verified copy of my birth certificate from California and then to get the SS records changed. I finally corrected this as I could not file my taxes electronically until I fixed it.
