Could taking antibiotics stall weight loss?

Otto and I are both on antibiotics. I started them today, and Otto has been on them since Friday. Will this stall our weight loss? We are both doing Atkins, and have been on plan with no cheating for a week. Any one else have experience with this?

I figure if I am warned ahead of time, at least I won't get discouraged if I stay the same this week.

Could they cause us to gain weight?

I really don't think the antibiotics would cause any weight gain, their action is such that they really shouldn't influence anything that would make you gain weight. You would be on them for a short period of time so I wouldn't worry about it even if they did. Other medications such as prednisone can make you gain weight and have other associated symptoms but the weight gain is generally due to the flucations in blood sugar caused related to the medication. I'm sure you will keep going on your way with your diet and weight loss. Good luck.

Thanks Debbi! I have an infected tooth, but I caught it before it started to hurt, and Otto had to have some minor foot surgery. We both are doing okay, but I sure appreciate your hug!

I was going to ask a similar question. I've been on antibiotics (first time in 30 years) and I am absolutely starving. I mean all the time. I've been eating non-stop for about 10 days now and the weight is just packing on. Have you been more hungry than normal?

Hi, Otto's Doll. I asked the same question a few weeks ago, when I was prescribed antibiotics for the same reason as you, infected tooth. No effect to the weight loss that I noticed! Isn't that a relief? And I'm also on Atkins.

(I have not been any hungrier than normal, but I find once I am in ketosis, I am hardly ever hungry.)
