could someone please explain this pin thing to me :)

Pin trading is something that's been going on for years -- most notably at the Olympics and events like that. Basically, you've got your lanyard (the thing you wear around your neck, that you put pins on) and you've got your pins. You buy some "starter pins" -- or you get them from friends -- and then you just wander around WDW until you find someone else with pins. Then ... you trade. You offer a pin for a pin they have, and they can either agree or not. Or ... someone may offer you a pin for one you have, and you can accept or not. The only rule is to be polite.

There are pin stands and shops all over property where you can buy additional pins for your collection, or you can find them at Disney Stores, discount stores, flea markets, eBay ...

Some people are really into it. Others could care less. Most just find it a fun way to meet new people and collect something Disney.

what i can add is that is very addictive. I really didn't think my kids would get into it as much as they did. dd8 traded tons of times with cms at all the parks. dd15 only traded a couple times but really liked collecting the pins from each 'cool' ride she went on. I wish I had known to buy some inexpensive pins on ebay before we went.
