I've never watched Cougar Town, but apparently the only thing of substance in the show is the fact that the characters drink vats of wine, at least that's the impression I'm getting from all the promos on TBS. Am I the only one who thinks it's a bit trite?

THANK YOU! i thought DH and i were the only ones who noticed! i asked him monday night, after seeing yet another commercial for that show, "is that all they do in cougar town? drink wine?" he said "apparently." lol.

It's kind of one of those things that you have to be watching the show to appreciate it. But no, it's not the only thing of substance, it's actually a pretty funny show!

I dont like the emphasis on drinking wine either. I just don't find it entertaining. But I've learned that there are lots of people who find talking about drinking funny. (There was a huge group on the DIS a few years back .) I don't get it. To me you either have a drink or you don't and there's really no joking involved.

The promos are having the opposite of their intended purpose in our house. My husband had heard some good things about the show on some podcasts that he listens to, but now with all the promos, he says he's changed his mind about watching it.

It's actually a pretty funny show and one of the main things they do is gather at Julie's house and drink wine together. I actually can't wait for the new season to begin.

I must watch a lot of TBS because I feel like I'll pull my hair out if I see that stupid promo again. I'm highly disturbed by the way they are throwing the wine around, what if there was a needy family that could have used it?

I've never watched the show, the promos make me think its corny.

I like the wine throwing promos. It might actually get me to start watching again.

Love the show and can't wait for it to come back on. I'll probably watch with a glass of wine~

The part that gets me is where they say "stupid title, great show." I feel like the show has been ragging on its own name since the first season, which makes me wonder...why the heck did they pick it in the first place?

Because there is definitely a needy family out there that needs tons of wine - or, rather, water with purple food coloring.

You all need to lighten up. Can't believe how seriously people are taking this.mits a freaking commercial. I've only seen a few episodes, but if anybody actually bothered to watch the show, the ads make peect sense by playing on one of the show's recurring inside joke.

The show is very very funny and one of my favs. Sooooo glad it was picked up again. You have to watch the show to "get" the wine thing. They are a very dysfunctional group of friends who just seem click. Yes they drink a lot of wine, but it's kind of a joke. I guess you have to watch the show to understand it.

I think they originally intended the show to go in a different direction than it ended up. They considered changing the title after the first or second season, but decided against it.

It has gotten a little boring, but I'm still going to try the new season. If it doesn't hold my attention this time, I'm done. It was really funny at first and still is sometimes.

Um, I'm pretty sure the poster you quoted was joking. Maybe it isn't everyone else who needs to lighten up.

As for the commercial, it does sound like it's missing the mark. Remember, ads are usually intended to encourage new viewers / customers. You shouldn't have to know about the show to understand the ad - that's not the point of running one. Those who already are fans don't need drawing in. So, if the commercial is turning off potential new viewers, then it's not working.

Well it seems if you think drinking wine is a problem you won't enjoy the show anyway? I miss the old Dis group who used to "drink" here - they were hilarious and a lot of fun.

I'm not from the old DIS group, but I like to drink :drinking1:jumping1:

I doubt that it's just people who don't drink who don't get the ad, though. You can like wine and still think that an ad with people just throwing it on each other is kind of dumb. The point of an ad it to entice people to try something. If the ad comes off as largely unappealing for whatever reason, then it isn't working.

Ive only seen the 2nd season. I randomly got the dvds really cheap so I decided to give it a try. I liked it and thought it was a funny show. Im not a big drinker but the wine thing doesnt bother me. I have too many other shows to watch so I probably wont watch it while it is airing but maybe I'll look for it online later.

Ive only seen one commercial for it but I dont have cable so it must have been on hulu or during the WDW Christmas parade because thats the only thing Ive watched in live tv in weeks

I remember ads from the first season and there was a scene where "Monica" and her friend were sitting in the stands at a High School football game and she says to her friend something about that guy being "hot". The lady next to her said, "Hey, that is my son!' I think they really were going to do a "Cougar" town thing. But I never recall an episode where they actually did that.

I like the show and was sorry it was cancelled. DH doesn't "get it."

And to the poster that said the show looks corny, it definitely is!!!

I haven't seen the wine throwing commercial, so can't really comment on that. But they do drink wine occasionally. Kind of like in Friends where they all sat around at the coffee shop and talked.
