Couch to 5k

Supposed to do w3d3 today. But we are having thunderstorms. So I don't know when I'll get to run. It was 90 last week now its in the 50s. So odd.

Hi everyone. A friend and I are also doing the C25K program. We are doing W4D1 tonight. We followed the plan for weeks one and two, but had to repeat week three because we were struggling a bit. Can't wait to see how tonight goes. Five minutes is a LONG run!

I had a medical procedure on Friday and then my ear infection kicked in big time. I am wiped out, even after taking antibiotics. My plan was to do Week 5, Day 3 this weekend but that was not to be. I am going back to the doctor tomorrow to see if they can give me something else for my ear. It still hurts and it is still plugged up :(. I could run fine last week but I couldn't even think about it this weekend. I hope I am better before I have to redo too much of the program.

Take care of yourself Robin!
The ear pain could be the swelling going back down. DD's Dr said the pain happens when the ear swells and retracts.
I would take it easy and restart at either week 4 or week 5 when you feel better.

Welcome to all the new faces in the group!! Keep us posted on your stats!

Yet another rainy day here and it looks like there is no end in sight. I haven't hit the treadmill since we got home from Disney. I need to get back on plan but this rain is dragging me down. I just want to nap all day.
I'm hoping to get down to the basement and run today. Not sure if I will pick up at week 6 or slide back a week, we'll see.
I also have 3 kids home sick which isn't helping.

We are planning on doing the Wine and Dine 5K at WDW in October as a family so this summer we are going to train together. I'm also going to look for a C210K app so we can start training for the Princess 1/2.

OK time to get off this thing and move!!!

Have a great day everyone!

Hmmm ... it appears that Run Keeper can do exactly what I want. I didn't have to buy that C25K program after all. I'll use it later on this week and report back.

I re downloaded it - it was free! and you are right, it does everything I wanted it to do also! Thanks for the reminder!

Hi,

I have been traveling a bit but I am still on plan. I start Week 3 this week and I am nervous. I can't believe 3 minute runs....

I have loved getting caught up on the posts. Everyone is doing a great job and you are a big inspiration!

Welcome back - you must travel a lot! ITA - you are all inspirational, and helping me to be accountable!

Just wanted to jump in and introduce myself ! I'm getting prepared to restart the C25K program. A few years ago I made it through to week 5 and was doing great until I injured my knee and then never restarted. So, I know I can do it and that it works. Nervous though since I'm more out of shape than ever before.

I have a good friend who will also be doing it with me ( hopefully she will join in and introduce herself as well !).

Short term goal is to run a 5k this fall and possibly even the Tinkerbell Half this January !

 Hi - I jumped in too - DH was determined to get us to another marathon - and he loves the Disney marathons. I'm going to run the Half - and be in shape! right? I hope.

I skipped W5D2 and went straight to the 20 minute run of D3. I can't believe I did it! My husband was with me and I keep asking him to make sure I'm not dreaming! :) I haven't run that long since high school!

:cool1: Congratulations, its nice having the support!

what is it about the weather interfering with the goals and plans? :confused3

 to you also! 5 min is a long run! What part of Indy? I grew up in Northwest Indiana, my mil/sils are in Indianapolis (and I am a Ball State Grad, dh Rose Hulman)

I know couch to 5K is a great program for strengthening the run etc etc... but my challenge is the 2 dogs. So I downloaded RunKeeper and thought I'd at least check how long and what speed I am doing this - So this morning I took one dog out to the park field and back, then traded for Dog 2 (DS's dog, long story, we're babysitting - he's a german shephard/lab mix, gentle giant teddybear!) and did the same routine... I noticed I would slow down a bit, but the dogs seem to have a nice steady pace... Got home to find out I did 1.4 miles but at 22+ min - in 30 min total.

then did the 2nd walk (since each dog only did 15 min walks, they needed more exercise - trust me, ornery dogs) So out again, this time I tried taking both dogs together - that worked fine! and once again they seem to have a nice steady pace, I was dragging them down, so I would try and jog a bit here and there - then thought "I'm so not going to make it" but the Runkeeper voice kept me focused, and I kept saying, the dogs deserve this (it just felt longer than 26.38 min - and a LOT longer than 1.22 miles!) 22 min mile - I shaved off 10 seconds! :rotfl2:

one day at a time.

well rain is in the forecast for the next few days, is it bad to take a couple days break?

We have been overtaken with rain as well, with no near end in sight, and I am feeling a bit derailed. After a long, long day at work I am pledging to leave work a little early tomorrow and get myself back on track by either running outdoors or getting on the elliptical. :thumbsup2

great idea. If the rain doesn't stop by tomorrow here, I plan on running around my house. With no treadmill or anything its really my only choice. Unless the rain is light and no lightning.

super bummed! I was to do W2D1 today. I've been sickwith a cough and dont wanna push it. I was thinking if I feel better to start it Fri-Sat-sun. If I cant then I will redo W1:sad2:

Well, I didn't quite finish W4D1 last night. I made it through the first three runs, but the final 5 minute run finished me. I had to walk after about the two minute point. Walked maybe 40 seconds, ran another minute and was finished.

We're doing W4D2 on Wednesday and I'm hoping I can finish this time. My legs were fine, It was the breathing that was holding me back. Just couldn't seem to get my breath.

Oh well, the worst that can happen is I have to repeat the week until I can get it down... I'm still running considerably more than I was a month ago. :thumbsup2

I did w4D1 today and it is hard.

I may have to repeat this week also, but agree - we are making progress!

Good luck!

Thanks! I'm not going to let it get me down. I still feel pretty good about what we have accomplished in the last month...

And just for the sake of asking. What, if anything, do you guys do the other four days each week? Weights? Ride a bike? Zumba? I used to walk five days a week and I think I might need to add in another couple days of working out, but don't want to walk. What else do you all enjoy?

I teach Zumba on two of the days I'm not training. Now, I have added in C25K Week 1 with my son. I must be crazy! But, if he wants to do the Wine and Dine 5K with us, he is going to have to train, too. So I'm on Week 6 for me and Week 1 with him. :cool1:

I've done that - and I have to say I do like Walk Away The Pounds dvd's - it does help!

see I admire you all for figuring out how to do these walk/jog minutes... I have the 5 min warm ups down - but honestly sometimes 60 seconds 90 seconds just seems... :confused3 really? is it working?

ITA that only 3 days of workouts isnt going to get me to the finish line in Jan - so I have to walk this first week every day - twice a day! and since my ds has housing issues, he has asked us to watch his large "teddy" bear! I've noticed that they are more consistent with their pace - of course I probably confuse them with my "speed" and slow downs....

How do you measure 200 yards? (week 2)

the runkeeper has minutes and miles... I did 2 walks of 1.37 miles

Hi guys! I still have my ear infection and I am still under the weather. BUT ... I re-ran W5D2 today and I felt pretty good about my 8 minute runs. The C25K app told me that my pace was 16.26 for 28 minutes and 1.9 miles. I'll try W5D3 on Thursday although I am afraid of the 20 minute run .

I tried to use Run Keeper today but I was stymied. I wanted to listen to a podcast while working out but I couldn't figure out how to select one. I could only select a playlist. So ... the next time I'll use it I will add the podcast to a dummy playlist and then play that one.

I was the SAME way on Week 3, I think. I was jogging too fast and was huffing and puffing like a freight train. I slowed down and my breathing was fine! If you want to push yourself, take it easy on the first couple of runs and then kick it in for the last run or the last part of the last run.

How do you measure 200 yards? (week 2)
I don't do distance. I do time instead: http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml . I think 200 yards is 90 seconds of running.

Hang in there. Redoing weeks is ok! Just don't give up!!!

Breathing held me back too. Don't sweat it to much, slow down a bit, and take breaks when you can.
Week 4 is tough! I repeated it.

I do walk away the pounds and kettlebells.

Yes it is working. You are training your muscles to withstand more and faster movement. But doing it slowly will decrease the risk of injury.

How are you getting 200 yards? Are you using an app or just a plan?
200 yards is .114 miles.

You have a great pace!

Don't be afraid of the 20 minutes, kick it's butt!!!!
