Couch to 5K

I tried Couch to 5k. Did it for exactly 2 DAYS. I felt like I was going to die. I don't know if something is wrong with me that my dr. hasn't found, or if Week 1 is too much right off the bat, and hard for every couch potato. I will say, I've always wanted to be a runner but it's always been hard for me.

I'm interested in this too. I'm going to check out the site! I think Mother's Day is a great goal!

I love C25k. I got injured trying it this fall so I haven't gotten back into it. Looking into find a reasonably priced gym where I can use a treadmill. I love the iPhone app for it because I can listen to my own music and have the voice prompts.

Planet Fitness! I just joined right after Christmas and it ws $99 for 12 months. can't beat the price! they have tons of treadmills at the one I go to too.

I looked at this but there is a fee. There are free programs like this aren't there?

Lisa

a fee for the couch to 5K program? it's free; follow the link provided on page 1 and it gives you the running schedule to follow

I actually just started the program this week~ I just finished the WDW Marathon Weekend 5K and can walk it, but now I really want to run starting a with 5k, and ultimately my DH's goal for me: a 1/2 marathon.

I can walk 5 miles no problem, running is a different story...
Good luck everyone, and the W.I.S.H. board is awesome!

Above is the site that has the Couch to 5K program.

Thanks for the link. DH is an avid runner... like he runs every day. He completed his 3rd marathon this weekend. I HATE running but DH keeps trying to convince me how much I would love it :rotfl: I came up with a list of 11 things that I'm going to do for 2011 and one is run a 5k ;) DH is so excited.

The only fee I've paid is for the APP on my iPhone that says "Walk Now, Run Now" etc. It was $2.99.

You don't even have to pay that - the program specifics are widely available.

That being said, I struggle with this all the time. Sore knees, sore feet. It seems like every time I break through to a new level something starts hurting desperately again and I'm back in rehab mode.

I also did C25K and was not a runner before. Running was never my thing - even as a child. But I followed the program and was ready for the Princess 5k in around 6 weeks. Just take your time and don't skip ahead even if you feel like you can. And definitely get an mp3 player and download some exciting tunes. It really makes a huge difference!

But my best advice is find a 5k that is about 8-12 weeks away and sign up for it with a friend. Can't back out so no excuses!

I'm on Week 4 now. It's not my fourth week, I do repeat and I am really really really out of shape. I downloaded a free podcast for my IPod - it has music and a nice man telling me what to do and when to do it. I find him very encouraging. :)

The podcast is from this guy: http://www.ullreys.com/robert/Podcasts/

I'm doing C25K for the second time, got sidelined by an injury last fall.

My goal is to run the Expedition Everest Challenge at WDW in May with DS14. All of my kids are cross country runners so I figure I'd better become one too. LOL

I just wanted to say congratulations, and good luck!

I'm jealous, to be honest, I love the EEC and it's the best race I've ran... ever. OK, unfortunately I didn't get to run due to an injury so I walked but nevertheless, it was so fun! Nothing beats being at AK on KRR at 11PM in the rain, in a raft by yourself. Which btw, you don't get wet on because there's not enough weight to make a splash at the waterfall, but it had been pouring so much anyway that I was already drenched.

Well, thanks OP because DH and I have decided to sign up for a big 5k 10 weeks from now. So I downloaded the C25K app and we are starting training today!

I officially started! :woohoo: I did my 2nd run of Week 1 today. My first go wasn't as successful but I finished today!! I think I'm going to end up repeating Week 1. I don't think I'll be ready to start Week 2 next Monday.

man, I want to do it too but nowhere to run and no money for a gym right now. Ice and snow out in streets. Maybe I can do it in place (wii fit running with C25K intervals?)

Call your local schools. I know our's opens their doors to the public from 6:00 a.m. till 7:30 a.m. You can run or walk the hall ways.

With the right gear you can run through a Cleveland winter without problem. So far (knock on wood) I haven't had to do a single run on the treadmill this winter.

You might also want to check with your insurance. Some will cover at least part if not all of a gym membership as a part of preventative care.

Ours have latchkey in the mornings and after school, so locked to the public. Good idea, though! The mall is open to walkers (PACKED with senior citizens) but no running allowed.
