DF and I are starting the Couch to 5K...do any of you have success stories or any advice for us...we will take good and bad stories....thanks

There is whole thread from different folks who have tried it here http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=34978930&postcount=1

Personally I never made it all the way through the program because I found I cannot run for 3 miles straight without getting injured. But I am doing the Princess Half with a run/walk interval and would not have started on that journey without the C25K.

Good luck! :goodvibes

Definitely read through the thread posted. :thumbsup2

I started C25K in January. I was 40 - 50 pounds overweight and had never really run before. I was a walker.

The program wasn't easy, but with the support of that thread and other friends I made it through. It was a great accomplishment! Not long after I finished the program I switched to a run/walk technique so I haven't run for 30 minutes straight in many months. But, it was a way to get me started.

I've lost 25 pounds so far and hope to lose 20 more in the upcoming months. :thumbsup2 I just competed in my first 5k race this past weekend with a time of 38:43. I have a 10k in two weeks and the WDW half-marathon in January. Running was the best thing I ever did for myself and I am hooked! :cool1:

Love the Couch to 5K! :thumbsup2 I started in March this year and finished up the program the end of May - I have never been a runner, was a walker for many years, and the C25K got me completely hooked! The first week is the hardest, after that I really looked forward to getting out there and doing the run/walks..I couldn't wait to go do them.

Did my first 5K in June and finished faster than I expected to 31:38. After that I trained for a 10K and did that in July, then trained for a half and did that in September. The C25K got me started and I would never have accomplished all this without it - it is such a great program. I have bad shins and had to ice them after every run for the first 3 months or so but having the C25K schedule kept me from doing too much too fast and hurting them even worse.

As other have said, it's not easy, but its managable. Just follow the program and you'll do great!

I started couch to 5k last weeks in the hopes it'll be a kick start to getting trained for the disney princess half marathon.

I'll have to say the first week was hard and today started week 2 for me. However I ran at 11am today in the 90 degree weather and I couldn't do it. Between the heat and my asthma I barely ran for 30 seconds without an asthma attack.

That said it looks like I have to stick with my 6am runs if I want to make it through the program..that or run on a treadmill!

I did the C25K from Aug-early Oct and can't say enough good things about it. I've never really been a runner and for me the program made it feel like a manageable goal. I did the program for distance instead of time even though it took me over 40 min to do 3.1 miles at first. It isn't easy everyday but it is doable. I felt really great about myself when I finished.

I've since switched to a run/walk training program and I'm working toward the Disney 1/2 marathon in January.

I started C25K at the end of July. I ran my first 5K in October. Now I am training for the WDW Half marathon in January. I ran 9 miles today!!! I am now using Jeff Galloway's run/walk program and that has definitely helped me progress beyond the 3 miles. I can't believe how much I have progressed since starting C25K!! I really credit it with making me a runner. Now I really look forward to my runs. Give it a try! It works. I could barely make it through week 2, look at me now. :goodvibes

I love the couch to 5k. I started it about a year and a half ago, I couldn't run at all, never even tried. Almost finished and I quit, but it definitely got me started on running. When I got back to the treadmill I made up my own routine, but without the c25k there would've been no way I could've even gotten started. It's the root of my success. It definitely works to, and you can tell how much easier it gets. I sugges if you don't feel very confident on moving on to the next week, redo the week your already on until you feel confident, that's what I did!

Now I get in about 3 miles, mostly running, every other day thanks to the c25k! Good luck!
