Okay, has anyone done this and can an extremely out of shape person really run a 5K in 9 weeks. Actually, I'd settle for a real fast walk/slow jog.

I really need to get in shape and was thinking of doing the Everest Expedition 5K in September. It just so happens I will be at WDW that weekend and I need a motivator to get healthy. I'd love to have some more endurance for the trip as well as feel a little better w/ all the walking I'll be doing at the parks.

Tell me about your success stories.

I started running with the Couch to 5k running plan and loved it! I was not out of shape at the start... but running was a whole different ball game compared to the elliptical and other cardio I was doing. I found the plan just challenging enough. I started running at the beginning of March, completed a 5k after finishing the c25k plan and am now up to running 5.5 miles on the weekends (which seemed impossible at the start).

I would say go for it! You've got nothing to lose. You don't have to complete the program in 9 weeks... take it at whatever pace you can, and no matter what happens you will be in better shape for your upcoming Disney trip. As for the race, from what I have read it is part scavenger hunt. It sounds like an event where you would not have to run for 3.1 miles straight, but could walk, run, stop and look at clues, etc. (I don't know much about the race... I'm sure others will have tips for you on that).

Good luck:thumbsup2 Keep us updated!

There are many, many of us out here. Lots of success stories from C25k. I had never run before in my life. Ever. My long runs are now up to 8 miles. Go for it!

There is a great thread right here. Just scroll down a bit and you will find it.

You can definitely do it. I like the fast walk/slow jog idea better. I would recommend that as a goal. You can definitely increase speed later as you gain strength.

Here is the C25K thread. Join in all are welcome!
