Has anyone done this successfully who really and truly is a couch potato like me?? I have read somewhere that there is a 5k race in DAK in January at the same weekend as the marathon. Is there a link for this? I'd love help. Sorry if I posted this in the wrong place. I turn 40 January 11th, so the 11th of July gives me 6 months to get my butt movin!!!

The race website is at http://disneyworldsports.disney.go....events/detail?name=FamilyFunRunRaceDetailPage . You can checkout my website for photos I took of the 5K at AK this year. It is a fun race, We did it part of the Dopey(5K & Goofy Challenge).

I am coming off major knee surgery that didn't allow me to walk at all for 10 weeks. I am still trying to learn to walk normally withou a brace. So in some sense I am like that for the Dopey again in Jan. As with most plans, listen to your body and not what a schedule tells you. If you are hurting, take a day off. Pushing it only leads to injury and frustration.

Good luck in Jan! See you there:)

If runnig seems kinda over powering right now walking could be a good alturnative for you. Several of us on here are endurance walkers.

Good luck with your quest.

This is exactly what I did. Last September I decided to train for my first 5K which was at the Animal Kingdom. It was a great first-event! I did the C25K and it went well. I was really suprised how quickly my body adjusted. I actually had to use a stopwatch, but now I have an Ipod and there is podcast that is great!!!

Definately check it out! It's a great way to get moving!

I'm sort of in your position. Recovering couch potato training for October Tower of Terror race. Don't do too much, too fast; that's the best way to injure yourself and be sidelined.

I used this program and loved it! I'll admit that I was walking 2 or 3 miles---2 or 3 times a week before I started it. It was amazing how well it worked. Before doing this, I had only ran 1 mile in Junior High (when the teacher made me.:) )

I am in the same boat as you. I'm just getting started. I am definitely a couch potato for the most part. I get very little exercise except for walking to and from places. I spend a lot of time in the car or at my desk for work. I'm signed up for the Princess Half Marathon in March and hope to do the Full Marathon in January 2010.

Good luck. We can do this!!!
