For anyone who has ever used C25K for iphone how do you get it to talk? Mine started talking telling me to warm up, but didn't tell me when to walk or jog. Is this feature only when you pay for it, or is also supposed to be on the free version?

Its free on may websites , you dont have to use the ipod. Just use it as a base for what you do to make it work. I started out doing this and Ive lost 100 pounds and now run 20 miles a week , good luck to you

Did you go into settings? Under audio alerts you can select the voice you want and you can turn on and off which prompts you want.

i bought the app but I also downloaded a podcast for it. And i tend to use that more. I just did w8d1. And have my run coming up next sat!

good luck!

I downloaded the "5k Runner" app earlier this year. I forget if it was .99 or 1.99 at the time. When I go out running, I start the music playlist, then launch the app. Periodically it lowers the music, dings at me, and says 'run now'. It also has a nice graphical breakdown of the workout. Tonight is W4/D2 ! Running towards our August sailing on the dream and the CC5k. :woohoo:

I bought the active.com app for couch 2 5k. I start my Pandora playlist, then start the app and I've had no problem hearing the prompts. The music will be lowered when the app starts talking but you'll still hear it in the background.

If your iphone or ipod goes into sleep mode or turns off the prompts do not come on. I have to set my ipod to never turn off while I use the app.

I will have to try that one. I saw it but didn't know how good it was.

It seems like this is the general consensus to start the music then the app. I will have to try that today. I'm doing W1/D2 today. Suprisingly I did better on D1 than I thought I would. I haven't run in probably 6 years, but I did every job session and for most I did the entire 60sec.

I tried keeping it on, but it didn't make a difference. Thanks!

Hey, I just started this too! W1D2 here. I need to get into this century and get with this app stuff lol. Good luck to you!

Make sure that is the APP that is on top. I use Nike Plus or MapMyRun with it but I have to put the C25K app on top. I've also had difficulty with it not talking and that's what I think the problem is.

I have the rundouble app for C25K and I found that I had to make sure that my phone wouldn't go into sleep mode for it to activate the voice prompts.

There are a lot of C25K apps out there, so I'm not too sure which one you have. I have the Get Running app, but I had to stop using it after week 3. For someone who has never run a day in her life and hasn't exercised regularly since high school, I was way too out of shape to endure a 5 minute run.

I downloaded Easy 5K with Jeff Galloway and started doing that one, instead. That one has you do walk/run intervals of 1 minute each and that is much easier for me to keep up with! It also has something in the app where you can upload your own songs from your iPod and it will speed up/slow down the beat just a bit to help you maintain a pace. That really works well for me, since I was in marching band for so many years. :goodvibes And he definitely does tell you when to run and when to walk.

I will also run the Nike + GPS app and iSmoothRun all at the same time. I started tracking my runs on Nike, so I keep using that one for an accurate total, but I like how iSmoothRun will break down each mile for me.

If only there was one app that did all three....:cloud9:

My husband and I use the Ease into 5k app. And we've used it several times to start and stop. The intervals are a little different than the Runner's World original C25K plan, but the idea is the same. Works well. It has a GPS map and pace feature, KigerKat, I don't use it because I run on a treadmill in the basement.

Most of my runs are inside because of allergies, so I would need one that worked inside, too. Nike works great inside, but so far the iSmoothRun app does not. DH really likes that one, but he does all of his running outside.

I hate allergies.

I didn't even think to check for an app for this! I pinned the instructions on Pinterest and was just going to time myself this week when I started it. I love that I won't have to be responsible for keeping my own time - I'm off to buy the app :).

I started my ipod then the app and it worked perfect!

Thanks everyone for the help!!

I use the RunKeeper app - lets me program intervals by distance or time, has audio prompts, and will overlay over any playlist I select. Also includes GPS mapping of my route, average pace per interval, and will track calorie counts not just for running, but a variety of other workouts as well (for off-days in between).

I use active.com c25k. It was 1.99. I turn it to never sleep and it works great. Love the app. I am not a runner but I'm at w8d1 which I 28 min nonstop. My first 5k is June 2. I'm actually looking forward to it. Never thought I would get there!!
