We're planning to go to MNSSHP in Sept. and I have no idea what to do for costumes. The kids (DS9 and DD7) are easy, but I'd love some suggestions for me, DH, and maybe even my sister who is joining us. I'd love to find something fun and comfortable but not very costume-y, if that makes sense. Any suggestions?

We just wore Halloween themed tshirts..It wa 85+ degrees with 100% humidity the night we went.We had brought costumes and at the last minute bagged the idea .Too hot ,too humid. So whatever you pick think light and comfy.Mousekateers are a good one

We have some t-shirts as well, but for costumes we are going as Peter Pan characters. DH, myself and DD5 are going to be pirates, DD12 is going to be Wendy and DD11 is going to be the Indian Princess. I couldn't convince DH to be Peter Pan and wear the tights :rotfl2:

Last year DH, DS(3) and I went as scarecrows and our 8mo old was our little pumpkin. I made the costumes with short sleeves and such for the heat and other than all the hay (raffia) attached to our pants and such, were normal clothes.

This year we're doing a Pinocchio theme - my 4 year old will be Pinocchio, my now 1 year old will be Jiminy Cricket, DH Geppetto and I'll either be the blue fairy or Figaro. I plan to make our costumes again so I can alter them to work for the sept heat!

I Don't think these would really count as not very costume-y though I will say it was so, so much fun dressing up. DH thought we were going to feel a little silly at first but in the end had a blast!

There are some good "homemade" ideas on familyfun.com as well as using Search here on the DIS and type in MNSSHP costume ideas. Some people are so creative!

We went at the end of October and it was super hot still, so I had to change their costumes at the last minute. Bring something that you can either add or take off a layer. I originally had cowboy costumes but the humidity was too much so they wore their soccer uniforms.

We all wore t-shirts with regular shorts. DH wore a superman t-shirt, I had an artsy yet subtle skeleton t-shirt, one DS had a fireman t-shirt and my oldest had a red t-shirt, mustache and a mario hat. He wanted to wear pants and do more but by the day of the party he was very happy he only wore what he did. Some people go all out, others do nothing. But with the heat and walking we were very happy the way we dressed.

You could always borrow a costume as well!

My niece had a Snow White costume that I brought with me 2 years ago - and although I was the only adult out of the group who dressed up (out of 7 of us) I still was happy I did!
What made it all worth it was a mom and a little girl who came up to me and asked if I was really Snow White or not - it almost pained me to tell them I wasn't!!! But as I just came from changing in the restroom of Whispering Canyon and was holding my DS as WallE, I was startled they had even asked!!

Being in costume made the Halloween Party all the more fun to attend!! You should really find/borrow something!! So worth it!
