We were at Costco this morning and bought the Lamb/rice/veggie adult formula. I remember a thread on here some time ago about dog foods and seem to remember that several people liked this Kirkland brand for their dogs. We have an 11 year old mixed lab/retriever and an almost 3 year old miniature dachshund. They are on Blue food and when I saw this today I saw that the 40 pound bag was under 30 bucks so we are trying it. I would love to hear how others like it/dislike it/how there dogs do or did on it. I read the bag and it looks good to me. I like the fact that the first ingredient is LAMB and it seems to be a healthy choice. THANKS!!!

http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com is a great website that helps you determine the quality of a food. I prefer to feed grain-free foods so I don't know much about that variety. I think some of the Kirkland foods were recalled (only in certain states) but I guess if you were able to purchase it it is fine now.

I just switched the to salmon/sweet potato Kirkland food. It is grain-free since my dogs can't tolerate the grain. We've had no problems with it, and both dogs love it.

The recall was an "association" sort of recall. No Kirkland dog foods were tested positive but they chose to recall them since they were made in the same factory.

Everything I've read about Kirkland dog food has been positive. Give it a try. Keep your bag - since it's Kirkland brand, they'll reimburse you if your dogs hate it.

We usually use the Kirkland grain free, but my dog gained a few pounds and is now on the Kirkland diet food. He does well on both, better on the grain free.

We switched our dog and cats to the Kirkland brand about 8 months ago. We've had absolutely no issues, they are all doing very well on it. :thumbsup2

I have tried 3 varieties of the Kirkland brand and have had no problems with any of them. My 4 year old lab has eaten the chicken and rice, the weight control and the salmon/grain free with no problems whatsoever.
You may want to mix 1/2 old brand of dog food and 1/2 new dog food and then gradually switch to all new brand since some dogs do not do well on a sudden change of food. Mine had no problems switching at all.
I switched from a more expensive brand after comparing them. They both got A+ grades and the Kirkland brand was much less expensive.

Thanks will check it out.

Oh that is good to know that if they don't do well on it...i can get reimbursed. I hope they do well though. Thanks!

Kirkland (Costco) products get high marks overall from consumer reports - I think their dog food was rated also. The only thing I would say is check with your vet as to whether there would be any big benefit for your 11 years old to be on a senior food as opposed to an adult food. Generally, if your dog is in good health and has loving owners - a good quality food like Kirkland is just fine and that is one lucky dog!

Always, when introducing a new food to your pet, add it slowly to his regular diet. Gradually increase the amount until he is totally on the new food. This will help to prevent any dietary upset.

Our English Bulldog eats the salmon/sweet potato variety from Costco. She does great on it, and had no problems with it.

I switched from Wellness to Kirkland Chicken and Rice several years ago and have been very pleased. I am constantly asked what i feed because my dogs' coats are so shiny and their weights are perfect.

Thanks everyone for the replies. We will mix the food to get them used to it...have done this before. I hope they do well on it. :) Thanks again. :thumbsup2
