Costco Gas - how do you pay???

I was checking gas prices today and its up to $4.25 where I live. I did notice that Costco gas is cheaper, by nearly twenty cents per gallon. While I do shop at Costco, my local one does not have a gas station. However, I will be driving by another location later today and I can stop there and fill up my 25 gallon tank. So, my question is, what types of payments can I do at the pump? Is it the same as inside the store, cash or Amex? Can I use my regular visa at the pump or not? Thanks.

As Costco is, by and large, an unattended station, they do not accept cash.

They only accept AMEX cards, PIN-based debit cards, and their in-house Cash Card.

In NJ you do not have to be a member to use the gas station.

That is a New Jersey-specific law (similar rules apply to promotions such as Hess trucks, etc. in that state).

In the other states where Costco does business, you have to be a member.

Oh, BTW, on a cross country trip a year ago we planned our gas stops at Costco when possible. Most are located right off the freeway, and besides the cost savings it gas it made a great place to stop for the bathroom and $1.50 hotdog lunch!

You do not need to be a member at my Costco in NJ. They take debit, AMEX and costco cards. While I don't pump my own gas here, I do have to get out and put my pin in. I filled up for 1.72 on Friday. It's always the cheapest gas around.

On a Florida drive last year, we stopped in Virginia for costco gas and did have to swipe our membership card and pump my own. lol

It is true now as well. You can use American Express through next Spring. After that you will have to use Visa.

I'm glad it was bumped, though, because I really like the idea of planning a long trip around Costco gas stations. As the poster said, good prices, bathrooms, and food! What could be better?

costco doesn't sell gas on Long Island.
