If anybody booked through Costco travel, the minivan prices dropped about 35.00 for me. I am renting April 19-25...so it is worth to take a look.:thumbsup2

I book many of my rentals through Costco and I have gotten great pricing. Alamo includes a second driver at no addtional cost.

I always recheck the rate every day or two starting about 2 weeks before my trip. In most cases, the rates does go down. If the new rate is cheaper, I book a new reservation before cancelling the old one verses modifying my existing reservation.

I usually use the link for 30-35% off plus $30 off per week with Alamo.

Make sure to recheck the rate returning at least 1/2 hour before an exact 24 return period. I noticed that with Dollar, the rental price can drop by 20% or so if the rental is not for exact 24 hour periods.

do you mean the price increases or you save even more?

We are in need of a car for 24 hours or less - I don't want to jeopardize our savings by returning too early if that would cause a problem

OK - OK - I didn't know that you could rent cars throrugh Costco. We've had a membership for a short period of time. Didn't know about the "travel" services that they offered.

I always like to know things like this - cuz you just never know when you might need this type of info! And - I am contemplating renting a minivan for when DD goes to college.

Thanks!

I've found when checking rates that the price can be higher if rented for exactly a week (picking up and returning at the exact same time of day). This was usually the case when checking prices through Dollar. By shorting my weekly rental by 1 hour, I often saw a 20% drop in the rate. I think many people just put in the same pickup and return time of day when checking rates so they don't know they might be able to save by making the return time a little different.

I went to Dollar's website, picked a day at the end of this month, and found that the rate dropped by 10% when I entered times for a 23 hour rental verses a 24 hour rental.

When using Costco, I've found the lowest rates with Alamo. I've paid as little as $35/week plus taxes for a standard size car with them on Maui.
