We arrived in Costa Rica yesterday afternoon. It is actually cold and rainy (unusual for San Jose in July), so I'm glad we had pants and rain coats! We had dinner by the bar last night. DH said the ceviche was good. My fajitas were good (4 fajitas, so plenty to,share). DD had a hamburger.

This morning we took a tour wih TAM. We went to a volcano crater, coffee plantation, and La Paz waterfall gardens. Again, it was rainy and cool, but very enjoyable.

Our guides are Frankie and Ronald. We met them tonight, and I know we are going to have a great time!

Thanks for the weather update... (& trip reports)... Keep them coming. I'm heading there Saturday!
Hope you have a blast!!

I'll try to add just a couple things that I didn't know from previous reports.

- If you are offered a poncho or umbrella, take it! We stood outside for almost two hours in absolute pouring rain waiting for the turtles. An umbrella would have been nice...

- take two pairs of shoes to Torteguro just in case it is pouring. Some people only brought one pair and left their others in the luggage on the coach. They were quite soggy this morning. Waterproof shoes (we brought our Keens) are a must.

- buy the giant ziplock bags. Use these to pack wet clothes into.

- they don't want aerosol cans on the small planes to Torteguro. Keep your deodorant and sunscreen in mind...

- no hair dryers at Torteguro. I think we all had ponytails today.

- Take a flashlight for the turtle watch. You can't use it on the beach, but it definitely helps win the walk.

- the bus is definitely motion sickness worthy. I usually do ok, but it's been bothering me.

I'll update if I think of anything else. You are going to have a blast! We could be upset that it's poured everyday. Instead, we are choosing to think of it as an authentic rainforest experience. :goodvibes. Pura Vida!

Thanks for checking in, tchrrx! Have a fabulous time! :)

Thank you!
EEK!! As I am just a few days away from my adventure...this makes me even more nervous! (It will be fun!).....did I mention I am made of sugar and melt in the rain!! (and live in the desert!!) EEKK!!

Tchrrx- I hope your trip was awesome... I assume you are on your way now.
We head out in the morning!
Thanks again for the advise.

Here is a link to a blog about our trip:

A couple things that were different from previous trip reports are:
- we never had a 'two breakfast' day. I assume this means we didn't leave as early as they did in the past.
- after rafting we had sandwiches outside at a little pavilion.
- it rained every day until we crossed the continental divide. It poured buckets while we waited for the sea turtles. The guide said it had never rained on him before...
