Cost of Parking at Port

We are trying to decide if we'll rent a car for the 3 day Wonder portion of our trip or find other transportation to the port and rent when we get off the ship. We're headed to WDW after the cruise for 5 days, 4 nights. The cost of parking at the port is one of the elements of the equation I need to consider.

Also, if any one knows, are the car rental prices about the same if we rent at the port and return to MCO?

Parking is $10.00 per day and I have seen one way rentals on these boards for as low as $35.00/day.

we are using Avis, picking up at the airport and dropping off near the port. Doing the cruise and then picking a car back up and dropping back off at the airport. There was no differance in price for us and no charge for dropping off at a different location. Avis has a free shuttle bus to and from the port. We will have the car 3 days before and 2 days after.

We use Budget. They have a free shuttle just like Avis does. I found Budget to be a little less expensive.

Just returned from May 2 Wonder and even though we stayed at Hampton Inn the night before and could have left our van, we chose to park at the Port. We didn't feel comfortable leaving our van at the hotel, and we believe that it was much safer to leave it at the Port. Also, it was literally less than 10 minutes to get from the hotel to the Port and park the van, whereas if you leave it at a hotel, you have to wait for a shuttle, load shuttle, pick up others, etc...

We like leaving our van at the Port, and will do so next time despite the extra cost. We feel that it is worth it just for the convenience and security aspects!

Based on what I'm reading here and the research I've done, I think there's very little cost difference by getting a car at MCO, parking at the port for 3 days, and then heading to WDW for the final 4 days with that same car.

Now my dilemma is where to stay - we get in from Seattle at 6:30 AM the morning before the cruiseand know we'll be exhausted. Just did this in April on our last WDW trip and it's all we could do to get our stuff, get the car, and drive to the Poly. Thankfully there was a room ready so we could crash. I'm seriously thinking about staying at the Hyatt the day before the cruise - we can get off the plane, crash for awhile, get some food at one of the Airport restaurants, sleep again, and head to the port early the next morning after picking up a rental car. Now I'll need to see if they'll charge me only dayroom prices for the partial night if I book a full night after.
