I am considering buying into DVC. Real issue for my wife is the fact that rooms are not made up, as she considers that a part of a vacation. How much does it cost to add daily maid/towel service when you stay at DVC?

Your wife will likely change her tune after the first stay. I thought that too before we stayed, but at OKW we have as much space in a 2 bedroom villa as most 2 bedroom homes. It doesn't really get messed up too much, and it's no big deal to make my bed when I get out of it, just as I do at home. I also am capable of throwing towels in the washer on my way out the door and in the dryer when I return from a day of touring.

She will also discover how nice it is not to have someone coming into your "home" when you are off playing at the parks. In fact, we often put a do not disturb sign on for trash and towel day.

I agree with Diane. I think most DVCers find it very odd at first to not have daily housekeeping, but once you experience it, you probably won't miss it at all. And on those occasions where you have to travel and stay in a standard hotel room, you find yourself not wanting the room made up daily.

Not to hijack the thread, but are there places you can take your own trash out? I clean myself, because I have two kids anyway so they trash it 4-5 times daily, but our issue was needing the trash emptied a lot because of diapers etc. Do we get trash bags and a dumpster to take it to?

Here's another hijack question (sorry!) - When they come on day 4 to do towels and trash, do they leave more of the supplies like laundry detergent, shampoo, etc? Also, what about if you pay for an extra day of cleaning - do they replenish those then?

Thanks!

Every resort has some sort of trash disposal room, the location will vary resort to resort. At OKW, each building has a trash/recycle on the first floor under one of the stairwells.

Yes, they will replace the toiletries and laundry soap on Trash Day and Full Cleaning day.

I think this will answer your questions. . .

With Trash & Towel service, Housekeeping will:

* Empty trash and replace liners in trash bins.
* Provide fresh bathroom linens.
* Replace shampoo, facial soap and bath soap.
* Replenish facial tissues, paper towels and toilet paper.
* Replenish coffee, sugar, cream and sweeteners.
* Replenish dishwashing liquid, dishwashing detergent, sponges and laundry detergent as needed in one-, two- and three-bedroom Vacation Homes.

With Full-Cleaning service, Housekeeping will provide everything included with the Trash & Towel Service, plus:

* Change the bed linens.
* Vacuum and dust the Vacation Home.
* Clean the bathroom(s).
* Clean the kitchen/kitchenette and wash the dishes.

When we stay concierge, which has daily room service, half the time I ask them not to bother. :confused3

I get so used to no service at DVC that when I travel for work, I make my bed, hang up the towels and tidy up the room.

Honestly I prefer no maid service and we have even been known to use the vacuum at least 2 or 3 times. Having a 2 year old necessitates this. Having the extra space and the kitchen is just a huge trade off for me.

And as for bringing out the trash every time we were at Kidani and went to bring out the trash we met up with a housekeeper who took it from us as we were making our way to the trash room

OK thanks!

When we started I was in the "what do you mean there is NO maid service :eek:" group... :rotfl2:

Now we put up the do not disturb sign on trash and towel day too... :rotfl:

I always pick up before we leave for the day.
Even with maid service.
If we were there for more than a week, I might have them clean the bathroom and change the beds.

I thought it was going to be a big deal too and after almost 11 years of DVC I've never requested additional service. I'm glad they don't come in everyday.

I couldn't have said it better myself!!!

I miss it, but I'm too cheap to pay for it. I like having clean towels and beds made by someone else every day on vacation (or when I travel for business) and I've almost never found maidservice to be inconvienent, I'm generally out of my room when they come.

I just want to add something from my experience. A big hang-up for me that prevented us from buying DVC for a long time was the lack of daily maid service. Finally took the tour and bought since we could always pay extra for the daily maid service (although it still frosted me that it wasn't included). Well, I just didn't get around to arranging it, and found it OK without it. No, it wasn't OK-it was GREAT! Now when we're at a hotel, we don't like that strangers come into our room every day. No one comes in to our home when we're not there, and DVC is like home. But I never thought I'd like NOT having daily maid service.

We are thinking of doing a 4 night stay at Aulani in a 1 bedroom.....we are not DVC members but are buying points from someone and then then the DVC mmembers are making reservation.....with this set up.....do I request cleaning myself when I check in or does the DVC owner need to request?

Also does the resort know that I am a guest of member or do they not know the difference? What additionial benefits would I receive?

The member is required to tell DVC that they are renting the reservation. That's in our rules for DVC. You will not get any member perks since you compensated the member for the stay.

You will need to notify Housekeeping when you want an additional cleaning and pay for it when you check out.
