I was curious as to how much others pay for daycare....... our daycare just went up 10 a week.. i feel we pay a large amount to live in a rural area... infants.. which are 4 mos to 15 mos are $235 a week!!!! my daughter goes into the next room for 15 mos -2 years old next week.. and i think the price drops t $205! this is insane... but I guess its the price to pay for your childs saftey.. and learning enviornment.

My DS is in a center in Quincy, and we pay $349 a week. It's a lot, but I wanted him closer to me at work...we also looked at places near my DH's work in Framingham, and prices were higher there, $400 a week!! I don't know how people can afford to have more than one kid in day care! Anyway, other places we looked at in the canton area ranged in price from about $330- $375. We're closer to Boston so it's a bit more than central mass...I know my little cousin who lives in Auburn sends her son to a center where she only has to pay $25 a week (but she's subsidized so you can't go by that...)and a girlfriend who lives in the RI sticks (no offense to anyone out that way) pays about $25 a day for her 3 year old, but that's at a home day care. I feel that we get what we pay for though; it is pricy but our son is in a terrific place with great teachers, and he's just about 3 miles away from my office, which gives me huge piece of mind...but it IS expensive...and luckily doesn't cut into our WDW fund

PS- Happy almost birthday :)

In SC we pay $125.00/ week for a 4 year old, and the baby (under 1) is $150per week (and I thought that was bad)!

In our area the infant care (3mos to 18 mos) is $90-$105 per day. Toddlers (18 mos - 2 1/2) are $75 per day. Preschool goes down to about $50 per day.
So, for my 2 kids it would be $150 per day. Though we would get a 5% discount to have both kids in care.
When I go back to work we're getting a nanny. That will be about $1500 per month.

Miss LD - per day???? Really!? Oh my...

The hospital I work at has a daycare accross the street run by an outside company and I pay $175 a week for my 2 year old - but that's with a hospital employee discount.

Most centers around here are about $175 - $225 per week per child. I go to an in home caregiver and it is $25 per day per child - and I only work 3 days a week so I have it CHEAP! And she is exceptional!

I pay by the month and it's $835/month for my 3 year old which comes out to $200 on a weekly basis.

I really feel for all of you who have to pay so much for childcare. I am really lucky because my husband and I are both nurses so we just work different days. He works 3 days and I work 2.

Here in the Raleigh Durham chapel Hill area of NC infant care is around $260 a week. And most don't include wet wipes, formula, anything. At our last center DS's 3 year old class was $197 a week.

DS is in a 5 star center now that starts at age 2 1/2. All kids pay the same rate - $925 a month. Since the daycare is on the campus of the retirement center where I work, I get $225 off that rate. So I pay $700 a month. This is a STEAL in our area.

We pay $195 a week for 3 days (just went up from $190). I do love our day care center. I looked at in home and just wasn't comfortable with what I saw. However, if we are lucky enough to have #2, we will have to investigate in home care a bit more to save $$$$.

In MA there are regulations for staffing - the ratio of infants to staff is much lower than toddlers to staff. That's why it costs more - they have to hire more staff for the infant room. Think of it this way - you don't want the infants all piled up 2-3 in a crib, with hardly anyone available to care for them, right?

Does anyone have their kids in Before and After care? I'm thinking about going back to work, and I would need to put DS8 in Before/After care. He would be there about 30 min in the AM and about 30 min in the pm. I called around some of the local daycares and was shocked. I got quotes from $90-$125. I thought that was a lot. Mind you, he would only be in their care for an hour a day.

Our school has a before and after school program. I was told that everyone is charged the same rate regardless of how long you use the services each day. Apparently they have a limit to the number of kids they can take and a child who only stays for 30 minutes after school still takes up a space. Ours is $100 a week for afterschool care and I was only going to need it for 30 minutes each day. I opted to renegotiate my work hours so I could pick up my son on time. I also enlisted my dad to pick him up on Wednesdays which are always minimum days. I only work part time and just couldn't see paying so much for so little time.

They probably charge consistent rate for after school, because even though your child leaves after 30min, they take up a spot that they could fill with another child. Its logical for them, but not really fair for you. Similarily my daycare is the same daily rate for having your child there from 7:30am-5pm or having them there from 9am-3pm. It sucks because they don't pay the staff hourly not daily, but the parents pay daily.

Daycare is expensive. I was paying $40/day for my DD until she turned 3, then she went from infant/toddler section to preschool section and dropped to $25/day. The increased cost for infant/toddler is based on having to have 1 staff for every 4 kids, whereas from 3-5 they can have 1 staff for 8 kids, plus they provide snacks for 3-5 yr olds.

Our center just raised their rates for new families - 270 a week for 2 and under and 200 for 3's! So if I started the center today I'd be paying almost 500 bucks a week for both of my children! It's so worth it though!

Ten years ago I was paying $1000 per month per child. (That's why I became a SAHM for 6 years after #2-- I'm a teacher and most of my salary was going to daycare.)

I've got to tell you, though, it was GREAT daycare! There was never a time when I popped in and didn't find some teacher or aide on the floor playing with some child who didn't want to do what the group was doing. They were professional and wonderful-- it's no wonder they had a huge waiting list. (FYI, if you're on Long Island, it was First Class at the old EAB plaza in Uniondale.)

I would imagine that in 10 years, it's gone up significantly.

And infant care is always the most expensive. The child care provider/child ratios are necessarily low-- they have to make sure that in the event of a fire or other crisis, there would be enough adults to carry each of the infants out.

We're soooo blessed when it comes to day care for our two little girls. My mom watches them both and we give her 200 bucks a month. Up until this year my mom would pick my kids up and take my oldest to school and pick her up and my husband and I pick them up after work. Our oldest is in a new school now which is just at the end of our street and she's in the 5the grade now so I think she can huff it to school but my mum will still pick her up after school.

My mom has been watching our kids since I went back to work a year after having my oldest. We use to give her 300 a month but when we bought our home she told us to only give her 200. That's a mom for ya. I'm so glad she's the one watching them because she helps with homework, fixes well balanced meals and gives 'em grammy's love. I always tell folks if it were for my mom I don't think we could afford to pay day care prices. I'd be working just to pay the sitter and that to me doesn't add up.

I pay $150/week .But My daughter is 4 and in the prek room. When she was a baby the price was alot higher. The older they get, the cheaper it gets since they can have a bigger ratio of kids to teacher and less time required for diapering /feeding etc. It seems ridiculous but when I see what these teachers do, it doesn't make me feel so bad.

It all depends on where you live, here in my part of Indiana I paid 85.00 a week for full time in a church daycare. He got breakfast and two snacks we brought his lunch. Now I know it was going to go up in Sept because they are now providing hot lunch so it went up to 100.00 a week. They only take 2-5 year olds so it was one price. My son started Kindergarten so I don't have to pay that anymore. Whooo-Hoooo

I'm in southern NH, and just enrolled my DS 2.5 for part time (2 mornings, 4 hours each). I'll be paying $60/week for the 8 hours of care.
