Hi. I am looking into the possibility of putting an inground pool in my backyard. Could anyone give me an estimate of what it might cost. I'd like to do 20x40 rectangle with the stairs that go across the whole small end. A diving board. Not sure of the filteration system yet. I'd do solar heating. I would really like an automatic safety cover. I'm thinking @ $25000. does this seem right. I'd also love to add a hot tub but I don't know if that would be at all possible. Can anyone give me any estimates??

Don't have an answer for you, except the diving board is probably no go. Your local ordinances probably won't allow it. If they do, I'm sure your insurance company will have ways to discourage you.

Call a few LOCAL pool companies as the price will vary from state to state and it will also depend on if you do a liner inground pool versus gunite, how many stairs, depth, size, amount of cement you want surrounding the pool fro the deck area-etc...

My brother paid 48K for his. Ours was 67K for the pool and then an additional fortune for the fountain wall and landscaping.

We did inground in TX and it was about 50,000, which is about average for a nice inground pool when it is all said and done.

I forget what ours cost. But if I could remove it from the ground and send it to you I would, you could have it for free.

Ours was about 45K with the hot tub attached. Adding the hot tub was only about 4K so we went for it. We do not have a diving board, but a "sport bottom" (which basically means it's deepest in the middle of the pool). I had expected the quote to be around 75K, so when they quoted us less than half that with no bells and whistles, we added some stuff that we really wanted... Like the LED lights and the ozone generator and upgraded stone around the edges.

It really is going to depend on where you live though. In central TX I've heard they're more expensive because the limestone is so shallow... Amazingly they got to about 5 feet deep before hitting limestone in our yard.

25,000 is way low for most parts of the country. Here in N. Florida a vinyl liner pool of that size would run you in the high 30s. Solar heating and salt filtration would be extra. Is your family handy? Do you have friends with skills that owe you favors. My Dh is putting in an inground liner pool with his friends from a kit we bought online. Total price of an L-shaped pool will be about 14,000.

I live in NY. I'm thinking 25 for an average ING pool is about right (vinyl lined not gunite) And usually you spend another 15000 for the deck around the pool (pavers, pressed concrete etc...) I also think that when we had our pool first put in when I was a kid we didn't do the pool deck till the next year so the pool could settle. We also don't have the pool season that you Dis'ers in Fla enjoy.

Depends on materials and where you live.

I spent that much on my pool in Florida in 2004. Before the screen room. They build pools like gangbusters here, so I'm going to hazard a guess that you cannot do a complete pool for that much including the decking and such.

Best thing to do is to call and ask though. Most places will do a free estimate and if they are available to you, I would get at least 3.

Im in NJ and we just put one in last year. It a more of an oval shape, salt water filtration we added swimout stairs in the deep end and a diving board. We did stamped concrete around. total was around 46,000 this didn't include cover which was 3g more.
eta: think pool was around 35 concrete 11-12

Here in Delaware, we were quoted 44K for a 22X40 gunite rectangle with a spa.

We paid 48k for ours, that included the surrounding travertine patio. I'm not quite sure of length/width, I'll try to post a photo.

Dh says it's about 18,000 gallons...if that matters :confused3

i believe my neighbor's no-frills rectangle cost around $30,000, i have no idea if this included the landscaping or not.

I live in NY also (Westchester County) and installed a 20 X 40 rectangular pool with diving board in deep end, half moon steps on the other end, vinyl liner, concrete patio around entire pool. sound like what you want? We had it put in fall of 2005. The pool company said it would cost less than 25K total and nope, that is not what we paid... we ended up paying close to 35K. Once they began bringing in the machinery, the extras kept coming. Hope this helps!
