Cosmic Rays

We went there in 2002 and liked it so we went back last year and tried some sandwiches- we liked it! My dad actually asked today if we would be going back there in December since he liked it so much- and he's quite the food critic! But I've always heard mixed reviews on it. We've thankfully had good experiences!

I had the ribs and OMG! there was 1/4" of fat on them that should have been trimmed off before cooking-serving. I scraped it off and left it in a pile on my plate. Yuck. Finding a table was very difficult and getting thru the dining areas is tough b/c people's chairs are sticking out in the aisles and it's hard to get through. Too many tables, ya think?

Always seem to stop in to check the menu but never order anything. There's just nothing all that interesting/appealing for me.

I don't care for it either. We ate there a few months ago and the place was a mess. Tables were all sticky and the condiment bar was a mess. This was at an off-time for meals as well, so the place wasn't busy at all. I had to clean our tables with wet wipes before we could sit down. Burgers were bad as well, very dry.

The bathroom in Cosmic Rays was an absolute mob scene. Dirty and crowded, even though the restaurant wasn't busy.

We won't be back next trip.

I think it's hit or miss. We went in February for an early lunch (around 11) and I loved the roast chicken and mashed potatoes, and DH had a great chili cheese dog. DS3 loved Sonny Eclipse. On our visit in July, we ate during the lunch rush (12:30) and it was full of tour groups and families and we had a hard time getting a table. We had to wipe down a dirty one (thank goodness for Wet Ones) and we had burgers instead. The burgers were just OK, but I think we didn't like it because the noise and crowd levels left us feeling even more overstimulated than when we went in. I would eat there at off times, but that's it.

You are absolutely correct. I will fully admit, this is not one of my favorite spots to eat. But, it is SO convenient. We typically plan a day for TLand as my daughter would spend all day on SpaceM, and my son on Buzz. Sprinkle in the TTA a few times throughout the day and where else should you grab lunch (without crossing the park or visiting my LEAST favorite CS Pinocchio). Ray's is the perfect example of what can happen when you don't consider what time you are eating lunch. Later does not = Better

Although we love Sonny Eclipse, after giving it two tries my entire family decided "never again."

I heard a rumor that Sonny isn't at Cosmic rays at the moment. can someone that is there, or has been there very recently please let me know if this is true? thanks.

You are correct sonny is missing at the moment. We just ate there on Thursday and there was a curtain up.

Thank you. Does anyone know if he has a return date? I hope they aren't getting rid of him.

Cosmic Rays is where we nearly always end up eating on our MK day. I usually order the chicken nuggets- I had a burger but it was dry and tasteless :(

When did they do away with the rib dinner? I don't think we will go there in Dec. I love Casey's and Peco Bills.

We ate there on Friday afternoon, not impressed. American cheese on a bacon cheeseburger? That's a culinary crime right there. And the burger was cooked dry and tasteless. DW has chili cheese fries and couldn't get past the chili. That place is on our "pass" list for next trip.

Cosmic Ray's doesn't rank too high in our MK counter service choices either. The food is just ok and I do not like the ordering station setup. The positive feature is the nice views from the outdoor seating areas.

Cosmic Rays has been ok for our family- we've been there a few times. The food is ok- not outstanding. The place is usually packed and not very clean, though. Although, I will eat there every single time if my choice is between Cosmic Rays and Pecos Bill's. Pecos Bill's food is just nasty, IMHO.

We have only eaten here once and was not impressed. I wasn't expecting gourmet by any means but as others have stated the place was crowded, not very clean and the food was just okay. My DD8 has a very adventurous palate so I try to stick with places that have more to offer on their children's menus. She gets tired of hot dogs, chicken nuggets etc. CHH is much better overall. Haven't tried BOG yet but looking forward to it in a couple of weeks!

I am sad to hear about all the bad experiences here. I eat here at least once every trip and have never had a bad meal. I normally get a burger, fries, and a side of chili to dip my fries in. ::yum:: Other than the chili, it is standard CS fare, but the toppings bar is nice.

I come here mainly because I LOVE Sonny Eclipse. I am sad to hear he is on vacation at the moment. I will have to make other plans for my upcoming trip in case he is still out.

When we tried Cosmic Rays in 2009 we thought it was pretty good - not outstanding but good enough to go back, and we went there twice on our trip. When we went back in 2011, the quality of the food really seemed to have gone downhill. The burgers were rubbery and the ribs were awful. We're leaving it out of our plans this year. We may check out Pecos Bill instead.

Pecos Bill and Columbia Harbor House are now on my to-try list for counter service. And thanks for the commiseration... don't want to malign any place, but I truly wondered if I was the only one who didn't enjoy the place.

Though I do remember being amused by Sonny the last time I was there (May 2009).
