I estimated that my finish time would be 5:00. I sent in proof of time from my best half marathon (2:09). How do these things work?

Sorry no clue but I just thought I'd give everyone a laugh.

In the fall of 2005 after receiving our 2006 packets and knowing our bib #'s (comes on the packet, make sure you sign that waiver before hand I forgot AGAIN this year LOL) Susan and I sat there looking at the bibs in the booklet because they showed the bib # and corral placements. We were trying to figure out what corral we'd be in LMBO

We were so silly as to have magnafying glasses trying to see those that were to small to read otherwise LOL

I've actually come to terms with the farther back corrals where I seem to have been stuck with the thought that I get the warm up to reach the start line and that is probably why I handled my dreaded first 2 miles so well this past January.

Anyways, I think they use a bingo basket to assign us ;) If anyone has a theory I'd love to know too but really there IS a good side to being in the back besides being stuck with me!

Happy training!!!!!

From what I understand, they will try to put you with persons of similar estimated completion times. Try that is. Don't fret, you will be fine whatever corral. They give you enough time as long as you train for the less than 16 min mile. They wait for the last person to cross over the finish line and take that 16 min pace from there. If you have a good friend, have them be last and start reallllllllyyyy slowwwww.

To answer your question, I beleive there are 8 corrals A- H with approximately
2000 per corral. Based on your times I would guess you will most likely be in a C - E corral. I was in G last year for the 1/2, first timer, no proofs of time. It took me 17 minutes to cross the start, but I ended up with a 1:55 net. It was a little discouraging though when you got to the 1 mile mark and there were close to 27 minutes elapsed!! I zigged and zagged and made up the time! :thumbsup2

Last year Marathon had a red and blue start--and they merged after going through EPCOT.

So their lag time from start to last runner crossing the start is much less than the half since they are split up into two separate areas. Though corrals are unique.

The half was TWICE as long in the corral as they had us all lined up one after the other.

I was in the next to last corral with hubby (he put a slower time)--we still finished in 2:38--lots of zigging and zagging and we were about 17:00 to the start..so still under 3 hours WITH the low corral start.
