I spent 5 nights at CSR from June 12-17. My only other onsite experience was at POR in 2002.
First of all, I get a bit annoyed when people rate a Moderate or Value based on "Deluxe" expectations. So I will review this Moderate resort based on "Moderate" expectations.
Went with a group of 5 (2 adults, 3 teenage girls) and we got 2 rooms. I HIGHLY recommend this. Even if it had been 4 of us, I would have gotten two rooms. Having the extra bathroom, extra space to spread out, not being crammed in the beds together was HEAVEN. If you are debating two rooms versus one, I would scrape together every possible penny and get two rooms.
Okay, back to CSR. I read a lot of reviews and was shying away from CSR, but it was the only one with the discount code for our dates. So, we went with it and I was VERY pleased. Yes, there is a convention center, but the resort did not feel stuffy to me at all, as some people have said. There was a convention going on and we did see signs for it, but it didn't bother us.
There was very little noise, every now and then we heard some kids running, but hey, its Disneyworld. We never heard any noise from the rooms above or next to us (and there were people there).
The grounds are really stunning. As with all Disney resorts, pics just don't do it justice. Looking across the lake at night was simply gorgeous. Everything was meticulously taken care of, and every morning we saw someone cleaning, trimming, painting, etc. in order to keep it beautiful. The resort is huge. If you stay in the Ranchos, you will have a bit of a walk to the main building, be it a gorgeous walk.
We stayed in Cabanas 8A. Great location, fairly close to El Centro, the Dig site and a bus stop. The room was nice. Not luxurious, but very adequate. Everything was clean. The rooms are not huge, but they are not too small either. There was a good amount of clearance around the beds and desk. One of the doors on our TV armoire was broken and it wouldn't stay closed. I do prefer having the double sinks like POR does, versus a single sink at CSR. Good for tandem teeth brushing
BTW, Our rooms had privacy curtains at the vanity area. Before this I thought only CBR had that.
The staff was very helpful whenever we needed them. No problems there. I was a bit annoyed that I had to pay that 10% at the food court, BUT, the food their is a better quality than other food court food.
Transportation was fabulous once again. We never waited more than 15 minutes for a bus. If 15 minutes is too long for you, you might be annoyed. We waited about 30 minutes in line at MK closing for a bus, but that is to be expected at closing.
The bottom line is, if you nit-pick, I am sure you can find something wrong with the resort (or any resort). But if you know what to expect, I think you will really enjoy this resort.
Overall grade: A-. I like the double sinks better and the door to our armoire was broken. But an excellent resort nonetheless.
BTW, I gave POR a B+. Though I prefer the theme at POR and I like the double sinks, the room was not as clean and in need of some repair back in 2002. From what I understand, it's being currently rehabbed.

We will be staying there in November for the first time. I plan on requesting Cabanas 8b.
