Coronado Springs Resort -- New Unofficial FAQ Thread -- November 2009

I called WDW this morning and the 2011 value season in mods will start 8/14 according the the cm. That's a true bummer for us because we need to start our vacation earlier than that. We'll probably pay mostly summer rate and then a few nights at the value rate. Hopefully a code will come our way!

We were there in June, and the tip was never automatically included whether we used our CS credits or paid OOP. We just remembered to leave a cash tip on the table.

When they used CS Credits...they did not ask for any extra $$$?

If not that means the CS credit covered the Gratuity...asking/leaving Cash on the Table is not how they do it...they charge you at the register upon check out.

Quick question: Where can you fill the refillable mugs? I see on the first page, cafe rix and siestas, but can you use them at the pepper market? and if you can use the pepper market, can you only use it during the hours they are open? So you wouldn't be able to refill late at night?

We normally stay at All-Stars where you have 24 hr access to the mug station!

Thanks!

Oh and do they offer hot tea/cold tea and hot chocolate for the mugs here?

Coronado Springs-July 12-July 20, 2010

We arrived at Coronado Springs around 6pm on Monday, July 12 via Disney’s Magical Express (which, once we found the place—was so simple. Coronado Springs was the first stop when we got to the WDW area).:)

At check in, there was only one person ahead of us—so check in was a breeze. We did not do on-line check in. I had requested via Fax to be in the Casitas 4 building—and that is exactly where they placed us.
We had a lovely room (#4144)—around the corner from the quiet pool. :woohoo:

I loved the location!
Quick walk to Bus Stop #2—minimal walk to the El Centro and Conference Ctr (we were there for the National Down syndrome Conference which began on July 16—and walking distance would be an issue with my daughter who has Down syndrome).

I requested a Microwave, as I was having the Garden Grocer deliver some food items to our room. The front desk mentioned they would contact House Keeping in order to have one put in our room.

After cleaning up after our trip, we walked back to the Pepper Market for a quick bite to eat. The place was quiet on that particular evening. Maybe it was because it was in between conventions—I don’t know, but we enjoyed the quietness of the room and the cool temperature (which—remained HOT and HUMID throughout the week).
:sunny::sunny:
I’ve read a lot of complaints about the food at The Pepper Market. So, I was curious to try the food.
Granted, it wasn’t the best food I have had—but I think the folks working there are great hard workers, and try to put out food that is tasty and edible. My daughter and I both enjoyed the children’s hot dog plates (I know they say 9 and under—but no one cared that we were eating the smaller portion plates). A four star restaurant, Pepper Market is not, but we did manage to have a few okay and tasty meals there.
By the time we were done eating, our bags had been delivered along with the Garden Grocer items. Also already in the room—a microwave! We were thrilled. :yay:
We got to bed early, as it had been a very long day (I was up at 3:00 am—West Coast time), and we were headed to the parks the next day.

Now—this is where things got tricky.

Our first night, we slept like dogs. We got up—headed to EPCOT. We came back to the room around 3:00 pm to take a nap—refresh—before heading back in the evening.

But, since our departure from the room that early morning, a new tour group from Brazil (or maybe Argentina…one of the two)—with a new pack of teens (or pre-teens)—had moved into our hallway.
They had put boys on one side of us, girls on the other.
Now, I know and understand that kids away from home want to have a good time while away from their folks, but this was ridiculous.
We couldn’t nap as they were pounding on our door and window (I honestly think they thought that whoever was in our room was with their group). They kept trying to open the connector door. All that racket during the day wasn’t bad…BUT THAT NIGHT—they ran back and forth through the hallways, laughing, hitting our door & window—and playing loud music in both their rooms.
At 2:00 AM—I called the front desk to have security come out to quiet them. The Security man who came was so kind—and when I spoke with him, he pointed down to the threshold of our room door—rows and rows of coke cans had been lined up there! He asked if they were mine. I laughed—of course not! He mentioned that 10:00 pm begins quiet hours, and the kids need to respect that. I kept wondering to myself, where was their supervision? Where were they counselors?

That next morning, we went to Universal Studios to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter :wizard:—and came back to our room around 5:00 pm. This time, I told myself, if they don’t quiet down by midnight, I’ll call security again (who had given me their direct line). Well…I didn’t call until 2:30 AM again (it was the same ol’ story as the day before---only this time, the boys were having a large party in their room!). I was exhausted. I was angry. :furious:
Security came out and spoke to them, but it still took another hour for the party to break up. The next morning, the door /window banging begins again!!
And, lo and behold it was their group leader/counselor who banged on our door this early morning as he was waking up the kids! When I opened the door, he said ‘sorry’—and I tried to explain what was happening in my hallway, he instantly replied that he did not speak English. *sigh*

But, I had had it. After two nights of no sleep—I called the front desk and asked to be moved to another room (and actually, they had suggested that the first night, but I was very reluctant to give up that great room/location at the time—silly me!)---but I wanted to stay at Casitas 4.
The front desk couldn’t have been more kind. They said they would get me a new room by 2:30 pm, and to pack up my belongings now, and they would have all the items moved to the new room. So, I packed as quickly as I could so we could get out to Hollywood Studios that day.

Later in the afternoon, after enjoying the park—our new room assignment was #4303. I was thrilled that we were assigned a room in what seemed like a deserted hallway. Our room overlooked the parking lot, towards Bus Stop #2—and I just didn’t care that all we saw was a parking lot (well, we did see Expedition Everest from the front of our room). I was tired and in need of a good night’s rest. That particular area is near the resort’s generator system, so there was a constant loud humming going on. I loved that hum, because it drowned out all other resort noises—such as loud children’s screams and hollers from the ‘quiet pool’—which is never quiet, unless it’s at 6 am I found out. Eventually, another family moved in a door down, towards the end of our stay—but they were as quiet as we were.

I have to say, through this whole ‘move the room’ ordeal, Coronado Springs couldn’t have been more nice or accommodating. When I explained my reasons for being in the Casitas 4—they understood and made sure my stay was a happy one. The clerk at the front desk explained to me that we were not the only ones who had had to call security on the large groups that year (she explained that several of the kids were skinny dipping in the pool around midnight that night of the large party!).
But, we slept great the rest of our trip—and were grateful for that quiet corner of the resort!

Bus transportation was always wonderful. It could be a little crowded at night after the parks closed, but it wasn’t bad.
The Down syndrome convention is HUGE—so there were many families staying on for the parks.
My daughter happened to twist her ankle while at the Universal Studios Park—and was really in a lot of pain. We ended up renting a wheelchair for her, and when it came time to help her onto the Disney Transportation, they went out of their way to help her and get her comfortably situated.

We didn’t get to see the resident alligator. And, because of a temporary tattoo that my daughter got one day, she refused to swim at the Dig Site—and it’s too long a story to type why (and I was looking forward to trying the large slide!).

But all in all the resort is wonderful. :lovestruc

Beautiful grounds, great staff, and lovely rooms. The conference facilities are one of the best I have ever been to. Large meeting rooms with a decent microphone system, and plenty of rest rooms throughout the facility.
Lunch at The Pepper Market during the conference was absolutely crazy—but we managed, and mornings at the Rix Café were nutso—but it was doable if you were patient.

Would I stay at this resort again? In a heartbeat! I really enjoyed the whole visit there—except for the loud kids from the tour groups.:)

Thank you all for your great advice and help when learning about the resort. Because of your reports and help--I learned about faxing for which building, what to bring, the Garden Grocer--and even more! :thanks:

Yes, you can use the mugs at Pepper Market, but not for specialty coffees like cappucino. Yes, they have hot tea and hot chocolate for the mugs. Not sure about the cold tea; some of the resorts have the Gold Tea stations for iced tea. AKL had it when I was there last September.

I just went back and read all the pages of posts that happened while I was away.

KatMark--I am thrilled to hear your husband is doing well!

For those of you wanting to go to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter :wizard: --it's great...a lot of fun. BUT--be prepared for LARGE crowds. An hour and a half to get into a store is not a fun way to spend your day...! We managed--but it was hard in the heat.
Universal Studios is suggesting that people don't come over to WWOHP until after 3 pm. It's a suggestion that is not to be taken lightly. The crowds in the morning are HUGE. If you wait until 3 pm--you'll just be able to walk right in.
IF you go in the morning, you'll be lined up along the Jurassic Park area, given tickets to get in--and it might take up to 2 hours to get into the WWOHP area.
WWOHP is just one small area of the whole Universal Park--Islands of Adventure. If you go early in the day--my suggestion would be to go enjoy the rest of the park, then head into WWOHP--when the crowds are lighter.

Ok...I just wanted to let folks know what was going on there, as I read so many are headed there.

As for itineraries. I did print the one from Touring Guides. But you know--I too found that just making my own via an Excel spreadsheet worked best. Using color highlights for days/hours helped me scan the sheet quickly for what I needed--including ADR times.

Since my husband didn't got to Florida with us--I also had built him an Itinerary of where we would be on which day--but it was easily made on a Word Doc using a chart--with highlights.

Ok...enough from me. I write too much anyway...:rolleyes1

There is Siesta's and Cafe Rix (which I believe is open until 11?). You can refill it at Pepper Market, but if you are eating in, they refill it for you or you can go to the window where you can get the coffee. Nothing is open for 24 hours. However, you do have a fridge and we put some bottles in our fridge to have during the week. I know they have hot tea and cold tea; I don't drink hot chocolate, so not sure about that.

Thank you so much for your review. I'm so sorry about your trouble with the group from Brazil or wherever (now you have a first hand idea of what the people who deal with Pop Warner deal with ;)). But I am SO happy that the staff took care of you and moved you and were accomodating, etc. They have always gone out of their way for us.

Sorry you didn't get to try the pool and slide--you would have loved it. :)

I just went back and read all the pages of posts that happened while I was away.

KatMark--I am thrilled to hear your husband is doing well!

Thanks; he's doing great. We both went back to work on Wednesday. Unfortunately, I'm still sick (went to the doctor when I went back to work ojn Wednesday as she is a block from my office and I have a bacterial infection; I'm on day 3 of my antibiotic and hope by Sunday to be almost 100%. The only bad thing is I coughed so hard on Sunday that I bruised my ribs and they are VERY SORE). Mark does have to go in for an angioplasty and a stent for the front artery of his heart; we were hoping to have it done in August, but they want him to heal from this surgery first. Hence, he does not go until September 3 -- two weeks before our trip. :scared1::scared1:But the cardiologist says he'll be fine for our trip.

I really enjoyed all of the info you shared. Thanks for your review. I hope to make it to Coronado Springs next year so it is nice to know how things are handled with good and bad experiences brought on by other guests at the resort.

One question, since CSR isn't that far from AKL, does it still take a long time to go to Animal Kingdom and then take a bus to AKL in order to go to dinner at Boma. I know a cab is an option also and I was assuming it would be like $10 since it wasn't too far? Is the bus feasible to do or do you all recommend taking a cab?

Taking a cab will save you a lot of time. We're taking a cab to CSR from AKL after our Boma dinner, but I don't know what the fare will be. I expect it to be under $15. The 2 resorts are pretty close to each other.

When they used CS Credits...they did not ask for any extra $$$?

If not that means the CS credit covered the Gratuity...asking/leaving Cash on the Table is not how they do it...they charge you at the register upon check out.

Now I am confused! No one ever asked us for extra $, and I looked back on my receipts and no gratuity was automatically added. I was under the impression that it was no longer included as part of the dining plan........

The bus is usually just fine! It's only a few minutes, so even if it's crowded and you're standing, you don't lose much time at all and the discomfort doesn't last!

Ironically, our daughter will now be having surgery (oral) before our trip date as well! She has had 7 loose baby teeth for the past few months, and they are just not coming out. In the past 2 months, 2 baby teeth have actually broken with the adult tooth pushed through completely... a 3rd baby tooth refuses to budge while the adult tooth has grown in at the side... and a 4th adult tooth is coming through with no signs of that baby tooth coming out either.

To make matters worse, she completely refuses to brush her teeth (because these loose teeth hurt so much), refuses to let me brush them, plak is taking over everywhere, and her gums are developing gingervitis (SP). :headache:

So... an appointment with the oral surgeon on August 6th. I was told surgery within 2 weeks after our consultation appointment. Even if the surgery happens 3 weeks later, that leaves us 17 days for healing. The dentist told us that healing would take 7-10 days, so hopefully she/we will not run into any complications!!!!

I know it's got to be here somewhere........ :confused3
Is there a list online of the conventions already set for 2011?

We so desperately miss CSR and plan to stay there next June... however DD said she wants to make sure if there is a convention it's not something crazy like Cheerleading! haha. :thumbsup2

We went one year when they had a Sports Leadership convention (not sure the actual group.... but lots of coaches, etc.) and it was great.... pools & buses were empty!! :thumbsup2

Hi, cindyfan. If you go to the first page of this thread, you will find (near the bottom of the page) a list of conventions. This is NOT a conclusive list; this list was comprised from research, a friend sharing informationj and those who have sent us a note of a convention they were aware of.

But does anyone know if there is 24 hr access???? or atleast late night midnight?
