Hi everyone!
We checked in last night for our first stay at CSR! We requested Cabanas 9 on the first floor (we had paid for a water view). And we got Cabanas 9 right by the quiet pool. PERFECT location for us. The room was immaculate and the view of the pool is right out our window - love it. I'm happy to be close to the laundry also.

Check-in was fast even though there were a few people in line ahead of us. We at at the Pepper Market last night, and while it took a while to get our food (it was very crowded), it was delicious. A super value if you're on the dining plan.

The grounds here are gorgeous! And the beds are wonderful. We're very happy to be here! I'll write more later, but wanted to say, so far, so great! :dance3:

Thanks for keeping us posted. Enjoy your vacation!!!

A little over 2 months until DH and I return to CSR so excited! Someone say hello to the lovely pool-side bartenders for us!:littleangel:

Just returned from our first stay at CSR (June 5 to June 13) and thought I’d share our family’s impressions. Warning: I tend to be overly wordy! :rolleyes1

Back story: Last year we stayed at CBR in Barbados (near the quiet pool). We really enjoyed our stay there. I liked having double sinks in the bathroom, and the kids enjoyed the main pool (the kids’ pool was geared more toward the 5 and under set). We all enjoyed the theming, but the double beds were a bit tight (my husband is 6 foot 5 inches) and we stood on the buses quite frequently. Making all those internal stops in the resort at the end of a long day could sometimes be rough.

Being adventurous, we decided to try something new this year. It was hard to make the change at first because I really don’t care for Southwestern/Mexican theming at all, but, from all the pictures on this thread, CSR seemed to be very pretty. Plus, my husband really wanted a queen bed. The resort seemed more “adult” than the other mods but didn’t have that deluxe price tag. Decision made!

I like a beachy feel, so I hoped to stay in the Cabanas section of the resort. When we booked, only a water view was available. We requested a second floor room in Cabanas 8A or 8B or Ranchos 7B for proximity to Bus Stop 4, the Dig Site, and El Centro. I felt silly adding so many requests, but I figured what the heck! They’re not guaranteed, but it doesn’t hurt to ask. We didn’t get our requests at CBR and had a perfectly wonderful time anyway. Four days before our departure, we faxed in our room request to CSR.

We arrived at CSR and found that we had been assigned a second floor room near the quiet pool in Cabanas 9B. It turned out to be a perfect location for us: midway between El Centro and the Dig Site and not far at all from Bus Stop 4! There was one small glitch when we arrived. The CM who helped us at check-in was extremely friendly, but she gave us the wrong room number! When our key cards wouldn’t open the door, I had to go back to El Centro. Another CM found the problem and apologized, saying the first CM was still in training and had only been there 3 days. She gave me our correct room number and issued new key cards (once you use them in the wrong door, they’re deactivated!). I thanked her, and she thanked me for not being mad. In my mind, mistakes can happen. It was inconvenient, yes, but they did rectify the situation. If the second room number had been incorrect or something else had gone wrong, I would have been a little more upset.

The resort is truly beautiful! The landscaping is gorgeous, and we loved our little beach in the Cabanas area. When the rest of the family was napping, I snuck out to the hammocks to write postcards and enjoy the view. By the end of the week, I much preferred the Cabanas section to the CBR version of a beach resort. The theming didn’t seem forced. Very natural. Unfortunately, with all the park touring we did, we did not have the time to explore the Casitas and Ranchos sections, but we’re hoping to do so on our next visit. Unfortunately, we missed Ally though!

Mousekeeping did a very good job. Our mousekeeper did not make any towel animals, but she DID keep the room clean, which is what really counts. No complaints at all about housekeeping! We also received extra towels and soaps as needed. Loved the H2O products in the bathroom! Our mousekeeper arranged our kids stuffed animals most days. We also started arranging them in funny ways for her, and it became a game.

The grout around the tiles in the bathroom was in need of some fixing, but the room condition was good overall. We missed the chairs and table available at CBR (hard to have 2 kids eat breakfast at a desk with one chair), but we managed. It wasn’t a big deal. Didn’t even miss the 2 sinks. LOVED having the queen beds.

The Dig Site was great. Loved the large size of the pool compared to CBR’s main pool, and the Jaguar Slide was a huge hit with the whole family. The kids participated in the pool opening ceremony one morning, and really enjoyed that. Lifeguards were friendly and on top of things. Visited the Iguana arcade to use our voucher. It was okay. The kids enjoyed it more than we did, of course! Liked the hot tub and play areas for the kids. There seemed to be a lot for all ages to do at CSR. We never used the quiet pool outside our door. It was smaller and busier than the Dig Site in the morning and at night. Nice little pool, though. At CBR, we used our quiet pool more than the main pool because the main pool was SO crowded and smaller in size.

The Pepper Market was, well, interesting. We didn’t mind getting our cards stamped and paying as we left. Once you get the hang of it, it’s not a problem. Having a server bring drinks seemed silly though, especially since you have to get your own food. And the prices are high. If you’re not on the dining plan (we were), I don’t think it’s a great deal. On the other hand, we found the food to taste better than what we had at CBR’s food court. And there were more choices, which was nice. Was it the best food ever? No. Was it decent? Yes. We ate there twice. My husband had the steak burrito and chicken nachos. I had a fruit plate and chili-rubbed prime rib (a chef’s special one day). The kids enjoyed their food.

Got grab-n-go items from Café Rix. There was a good selection of pastries, but I did prefer CBR’s grab-n-go section to CSR’s. Dining plan snack items weren’t marked (as I believe they were at CBR), so I’d sometimes have to ask what was considered a snack. We were surprised that the bowls of grapes that you could get at CBR weren’t snacks at CSR. At CSR, you could get a fruit cup that was half the size. Overall, though, we preferred the Pepper Market/Café Rix combo at CSR to CBR’s food options.

The CMs we encountered were either very pleasant and professional or just doing their jobs, which was pretty much what we experienced throughout the parks. No bad interactions. To those CMs who go the extra mile, THANK YOU! :cheer2:

Buses? GREAT! Yes, it is Disney transportation, and it can be a pain at times, but we were thrilled with the bus service at CSR. When we were at CBR, we had much longer waits at the resort and more crowded stops at the parks. We also stood more often when on CBR’s buses. We only stood once on a CSR bus, and that was the morning we went to MGM (can’t change!) for Star Wars Weekend. The wait was long that morning too (when the bus finally came, several people waiting with us said they had waited for an hour; we woke up later and got to the stop later than they did). Many times there were fewer than 10 people on the bus, and most of our waits were only 5 minutes long. Overall, the bus service was great.

Would we go back to CSR? Definitely! For us, the big draws of the resort are its beauty, the queen beds (better for my tall husband), and the bus service. We preferred CSR to CBR, but we also would not mind staying at CBR again if CSR was not available in the future. It depends what you’re looking for in a resort, but for us CSR was a good fit!

Thank you to all who have contributed to this thread and helped in our trip planning. And thanks to KatMark for heading it! You’ve created a great source of information!

Is this the longest post in the history of the DIS? :scared1:

I tried to fax my room request today and it wouldn't go through. I used the number at the beginning of this thread and it also matched what allears had.

Is there something I'm missing? I've never done this before. I will try again tomorrow. :confused3

I did note my request when I made the reservation.

Any advice??

I'm on hold with CSR now. I'm trying to book a team meal for when our dance studio attends a competition there. I thought it would be easy. I figured they provided meals for delegates attending conventions so I thought it could be done.

Any ideas? Dinning thinks I'm insane. The can only book restaurants and since there are 80 of us it's too difficult. The convention people are still getting back to me.

Diamond, good luck with the group meal! Please let us know how that works out :goodvibes

Planning Fanatic Mom, can you let us know if the fax goes through tomorrow? Don't think the fax # has changed. Hope it works for you!

Out of These Waters ~ what a GREAT review!! We are big CBR fans as well but I (in particular) am a total CSR convert. LOVE it so.

I kept forgetting to post this but the hours for the gift shop ARE 8am-11pm.

For everyone going soon, HAVE FUN!! :dance3:

Well, returned Saturday night from my first 4 night stay at CSR and I was really happy with the resort. My other mod experience was CBR, twice and CSR did not disappoint.

We loved the Queen vs Double beds, though it was obvious it was a retrofit, the bed closest to the bathroom was really close to the wall, lol, trust me I know.

We were in a first floor room in the Ranchos section. It wasn't close to either el Centro or the pool, but not a prohibitive walk either, in fact I wanted to walk so a good spot for me. I used the bus to get to my room (Bus stop 3), to el Centro and DTD on my first day. My room mate had a rental car so we used that for our other trips.

I loved haing a gym on site. I used the gym and walked around the lake for my workouts. Laid out by the pool and even in 92 temps ventured into the hot tub for short spells. Even hit the volleyball around with a couple of guy one afternoon, but we had to run into the shade from time to time as the sand was burning hot. The temperature was out of control hot on Friday so after working out and having massages at the health club I dipped into the Dig Site pool, refreshing and then some. However, even that wasn't quite enough of a respite and we ran into the Iguana arcade for a few games to get some relief from the sun. The Casita 4 pool was gorgeous, but we never used it.

My friend had ordered a salad via room service for me for the first night. I arrived after 11pm and she'd guessed right, I was hungry so the salad and fruit plate she'd ordered were excellent choices. We picked off the fruit plate for breakfast and snacks too. I had an egg and cheese croissant from Cafe Rix on my first morning, wonderful sandwich. We had breakfast at the Pepper Market a couple of days later, a bigger meal, but not better. We had an attentive server and that was a nice touch. I had a side order of eggs and also the kids Mickey Waffle meal (two waffles). My friend and I were each able to have a Mickey Waffle.

Used the high speed internet without an issue, but would have liked a second connection by the bed, not just the one on the desk.

Overall happy with the resort, loved the upgrades of the gym, spa service and queen beds on site. Loved the pool area and like the idea of a main playground right at the pool site for the kids. Will definitely look to stay here again on either a family or grown up trip.

I doubt you are really on hold with CSR. You call the CSR number but actually end up at a central reservation office. As the restaurants are NOT owned by Disney, it might be more difficult. You probably would have better luck with the convention group.

Welcome back and thank you so much for your detailed review. I'm glad the CSR did not disappoint you and that you had a good time (sorry it was so hot though).

I am going to CSR this weekend (fri-sun)for a seminar with my son and we aren't going to the parks...well the thing is 1. we live in the area and are passholders and go at the very least once a month (we just went last friday) 2. we are now blocked out b/c we are season passholders, we did the gad/ gad and have those tickets but I just can't see using those tickets so soon and we aren't going to be in any of the parks all day plus friday was slam packed in MK and I hate sticking to people..makes me crazier than I am already... and finally 3. we are mainly there for the seminar
ok here are my questions... we have never stayed at CSR I just made the reservation yesterday.. is it too late to request a certain area? My son is 22 he is special needs but only with speech...we are both big kids when it comes to Disney...I figure our down time we can hang out at DTD and the Boardwalk and of course the pools. Any help is appreciated...thanks bunches!
M
PS we are also trying to get in a dinner somewhere for his continual graduation celebration!

We are down to 26 days until our trip!!

My daughter's WDW ticket/s came yesterday in the mail (we got the discounted conference pricing--since we are going for a convention/conference)!! She was so excited to open the envelope. :yay:

I already have the Disney Premier pass (I upgraded my Disneyland Premium Annual Pass--to this pass for the discounts you receive at the parks. For price wise, it worked out better for us--and was actually cheaper than me just buying WDW passes/tickets).

Everything is set in place (WDW tickets, airline reservations, resort reserved, Magic Express reserved, Universal Studios tickets :wizard:--so we can visit the Wizarding World!, conference paid, ADP's complete).

But, now comes the toughest part. The last month countdown. Will I even be able to sleep as the days get closer???

I just hope the weather cooperates and we won't be dying in the awful Florida humidity. We Californians are just not used to that much humidity...and I fear we will melt once we get there.
*sigh*...I guess you have to have some 'bad' with all the 'good' we will have, right?

The Casitas have a nice pool and is close to El Centro. We were in the Ranchos Bldg 6, close to the pool, but pretty close.

I would request a room close to the Dig Site pool, indicate you'll be spending a lot of time at the resort ie. no parks. I'm not sure if you'll drive or use the buses, but perhaps request to be near a bus stop too. Send in your request ASAP as I believe room assignments are made a few days prior to arrival.
