Hey guys! I originally booked my vacation at AoA, but after doing more research and the release of the Dis's 7 in 7, I was swooned and changed my reservation to CS. Anyways, how do you ensure getting a refurbished room? Is it a request you put in? Are certain buildings the ones with the refurbished rooms? Let me know :) I'd really like to get a refurb. room but I don't know the exact way to make sure it happens

You can ensure you get one by booking a preferred room, those buildings are all refurbished. Otherwise you make a request and hope for the best!

Yes. At this point only Preferred are 100% done. Any other category is a request.

They are making progress - all of Casitas is done. In Ranchos 7A is done and they are working on 6A and 6B. Next up will be 7B.

In Cabanas 8A is done. The other 3 will follow Ranchos.

thanks both of you. i called Disney's reservation's and spoke with a really helpful agent. I figured I'd share what she told me for anyone else who may be wondering--She told me by the time of my visit (July 2018) that a majority of the refurbishments will be done and getting a refurbished room shouldn't be too big of an issue.

There are 9 standard buildings. 4 of them are totally done. 1 is probably at least half way. 1 started in the last week or so. So yeah...by July there should be 5 standard buildings done, which is technically more. But until they are on the last 2 buildings, there is no guarantee that you will get a standard refurbished room. The odds increase, but they cannot guarantee.

I requested a refurbished (reserved standard 2 queen room) room for our visit last month. When we arrived I still hadn't received a room ready text, so we headed to the lobby. we were given a room in a building that I knew hadn't been renovated and the CM told me she didn't see any refurbished availability in her computer. I asked if she could please call and make sure- they found a room in Casitas 2 for us. Never hurts to ask. It was our first stay at CSR....I really liked the property and the room.

You got lucky and got upgraded to preferred.

Yep. At first I was disappointed to be giving up what I thought would be more interesting theming in Ranchos....but I enjoyed the Casitas environs and the proximity to bus stop 2 & el centro.... despite our parking lot view :)

We were assigned an unrefurbished room at check in and I really regret not asking for a refurbished room. The old rooms are in terrible shape. We had already unpacked and settled in by the time I realized just how bad everything was, so we sucked it up, but I’m definitely going to bring it up at checkout. In hindsight, I should have been more insistent at check in.

Really??? Insistent on what? If they don't have a refurbished room what should they do. You booked CSR knowing it was in the process of refurbishment - not finished.

What are you expecting? A refund on your room rate just because the room had not been refurbished yet?
Denise

LOL I forgot that you can’t complain on this forum without people getting their pitchforks out! I did not speak up at all about the refurbished room during check in, mostly because we were really tired and I didn’t want to be a bother. I wish I had spoken up at that point in time to ask if there was a refurbished room available or if we could’ve waited for one to be cleaned. Furthermore, our room had some maintenance issues, which we chose to not worry about during our stay because we didn’t feel like switching rooms. Mold on the ceiling, dusty and dingy light fixtures, and a toilet that runs non-stop are not magical. Also, I may be mistaken, but I believe the refurbishment is behind schedule? I think when we booked the vacation they were still on track to have all the rooms done by now, but like I said, I might be wrong about that.

TL;DR: if you want a refurbished room and aren’t assigned one at check in, you should ask if there is a refurbished room available.

Nope, didn’t ask for a thing but for them to note that there were some repairs needed to the room so that the next guest hopefully has a better experience!

I understood what you were saying, lol. The poster before you shared a story as to how they asked the CM to check for sure if there was a refurbished room available, and there was. You're saying maybe had you been more insistent, the CM would have dug a little deeper. I probably would have felt the same way. Rest assured, if i don't get a refurbished room, the sun will still rise in the morning and our trip will be just as lovely :) It just would be nice, is all.

We were there week before last. A refurbished room was my number 1 request. We didn’t get one at check in. I asked nicely and they found one in 7A for us. Doesn’t hurt to ask.
When you say, ask nicely, do you mean after they've already told you they don't have one, to ask them to check again? Very odd that that was your number one request that didn't get met, but they had one open? Hmm... I'm definitely going to make sure I ask as nice as possible.

Rooms are assigned 2-3 days out. Sometimes a request can't be met at that time but can be met on check in day. So yes, it never hurts to ask at check in.

That's kind of how we felt, too. It would've been nice to have a nicer room, but we were still at Disney!! Even with the construction, the exterior of the resort was lovely and the Ranchos quiet pool was so relaxing and convenient to our room.

That said, it definitely didn't help to see all these reviews of how wonderful and perfect the refurbished rooms were. As the saying goes, comparison is the thief of joy!
