My family and I just got back from Disney this week. We stayed at Coronado Springs in a standard room. We stayed in building 5 in the casitas. As soon as we entered the room you were able to feel the moisture. Fast forwarding to the end of our trip my husband notices black mold all along the bathroom and sink area ceiling. He took pictures and said maybe we should mention it to Disney. Upon check out I emailed them to guest services. Within hours I had an email and phone call. The gentleman I spoke to said it will be looked into and I would hear back from him. Hours later he called and offered two complimentary nights in any moderate resort of our choice in a standard room. Call this number give the case number and I would be able to book whenever I’d like and there is no expiration date on the nights. So of course I accepted and called right away. The woman I spoke to explained that she has the ability to do even more. She gave us port Orleans river side in a royal room and 40% the rest of the vacation (hotel and dinning) but we would have to purchase tickets separately due to the fact their office was unable to book them.

With this I was thrilled. My question to everyone is have you ever had anything like this happen to you? Did you get this? More or less? I read a lot of post and it seems like Disney has huge mold problem.

Mold or mildew? Yes. We walked 2 feet into our SSR 2 bedroom unit and I nearly passed out from the smell. i have a severe problem with it and unfortunately it makes me a bit nutty. So when DH instantly got on the phone and shortly after got a callback from the onsite manager at SSR, and I was asked if we wanted to move THAT night into a Grand Villa, or did we want to wait until the next morning to get into a 2 bedroom, I said I just wanted what we booked and we would wait. We spent the night there and I was out of it all night. Extended family got there later, and by the next morning all the females in extended family were sick because of it. Sigh.

Did you get this?

Nope. But I could have gotten a grand villa at the time. I just turned it down. And we did get a new villa the next morning.

Of course. It's built in a swamp. :) Florida is damp and buggy. It is what it is. I believe that CSR is being renovated, just like SSR was before the stay with my problem. So it's likely that it was a room that had been renovated and then closed up and not used, which gave it a chance to grow.

It's ALWAYS best to go take care of the problem at the time. I'm very glad for your immune systems that you didn't have the problems I have with it. :)

I had a mildew problem at the Swan. I was prepared to move, but we had a great corner room with 2 views of the canal. And fortunately we were going out that night so I cranked the air on and sprayed the carpet down with Febreeze. The smell was almost gone by the time we returned. Otherwise there was no way I could have slept in that room, my allergies would have messed me up.

Last summer, the first room we checked into at Coronado had an overwhelming mildew smell. I have asthma and could not stay there. The woman at the desk moved us to a room without carpet. Much better.

I have had mold at many places I've stayed, DW is built on a swamp in Florida. I'd be surprised if there wasn't mold. I've stayed in 5 star resorts outside of Disney but on the water and have had mold. If it's bad enough, I might say something but normally I just turn on the fans if available and crank up the AC to air and dry it out and go about my business. I have never said anything after the fact because obviously it must not have been bad enough for me to do so and when I have said something, all I ask is it be cleaned up. I will move rooms if offered if I haven't unpacked, but otherwise, I don't expect or want any other compensation.

It CSR, but I stayed in CBR in 2015. I’m really, really allergic to mold and after our first night, I woke up totally miserable. My husband found mold in the A/C unit, so it was just being spewed into the air. I felt a million times better within an hour of leaving the room. That afternoon, my husband went to the front desk and told them. They said they couldnt confirm or deny the presence of mold, but offered to move us to a different room in the same category. The second room we were in was fine. I wouldn’t have made it in the first room. I was pregnant and couldn’t take my allergy meds.
