Corian or granite?

We put granite in when we remodeled in the year 2000. We went with Rosa Beta. It goes great with stainless, white or black appliances.

It still looks as nice as the day they were installed, I love them. My SIL put Corian in the same year and she wishes she had the granite.

I paid $55 sq. ft. in 2007 for the granite, I don't know what it is now but I would pay $100 that's how much I love it. I use an all natural granite cleaner after each use and a granite polisher once in a while, both are easy to apply. Good luck trying to decide.

Wow. I wonder of she read the wrong brochure. You pretty much can't damage Silestone. We put hot pans directly out of the oven on it. You could hit it with a hammer and not scratch it.

Just be careful with the type of pan. We had a customer put a Italian style espresso coffee pot on a Cambria top & it did leave a mark. It was a cast iron pan that holds heat.

Quartz does not chip easy.

When we bought our new place about a year ago, I told DW that if she wanted to replace the countertops, go with granite. Instead she chose Corian. It has worked out well for us, but I have heard some stories of people who put hot pots/pans on it and it cracked. Good luck with your decision.

It is only the wow factor when yours is one of the few with it. When every house has it, then the wow is gone and it dates the house.

Sorry, have to totally disagree with this. Granite adds a richness that Corian or anything else can't touch. Granite is also the ONLY thing (counter top wise) that an appraiser will consider as additional value to your house.
