Cord blood banking?

If you banked your baby's cord blood, did you have to remind the nurses/Dr. to do so after you delivered :confused3 What worried me a bit was that my OB said that we had to tell the nurses on the way in that we were banking the cord blood and then remind them again after delivery.

I'm wondering if we should ask my sister to be there just to make sure that the cord blood gets collected (so we don't have to worry about it). She did tell me that the thought of being there for the delivery grossed her out, though

I would definitely remind them- having just gone through labor and delivery 4 months ago, I would have needed someone there to do the reminding as my thoughts were sooooo someplace else! You only have 1 chance to collect that and you don't want anyone to forget.

Good luck!

ps- I was there for my sister's delivery of her first one (her 2nd and my first were 4 days apart) and it was the most amazing thing I have ever seen. Tell your sister to suck it up and go- it is very nice of you to invite her. I had my MIL and Mom (and hubby) in the delivery rooom and everyone thought I was nuts but it was the nicest thing I could do for them to see their grandchild be born. Next time it will just be us though!

Wow, that was very nice of you to invite your mom and MIL to the delivery! I watched my cousin give birth, and I thought that it was pretty amazing too. My sister was totally grossed out when I suggested that she might like to be there, though!

I agree that they only get one chance to collect the cord blood (and the "window" is like 15 minutes after the birth). I'm worried that DH and I will be thinking of other things and won't have the presence-of-mind to remind the nurses and Dr. to do the collection. I wonder why they can't just flag the chart with a reminder that we're banking the cord blood or something.
